Tuna-roa was a gigantic eel and because of
his huge size, he had a nick name "Titanic".
He had lived in a wet place on the back of Maui's great fish
peacefully until an accident happened.
One
day Maui's wife Hina was collecting water in Tuna-roa's marsh kingdom.
At first, she did not see him although her bottle was hitting him
gently like a mother's fingers on her baby.
Still, she did not know but and then he touched her hip with his
tail in a friendly way but she thought there was an obscene man who had
touched her indecently. When
she turned around and tried to slap the guy, she found no-one behind her.
She was scared, so she screamed loudly as if she was giving birth
and it frightened him. He was
disconcerted and he hit her with his strong tail until she fell down into
the water.
After
that, Maui was as angry as an exploding outburst volcano.
He went to the forest at one and spent a month designing new
weapons. Then, he spent a
year make these powerful weapons and tools.
At the same time, Hina died of hunger because he hadn't been
hunting. He swore to God that
he would revenge her death. For
keeping alive, he cooked her body.
He
wanted to absorb the water from the swamp and catch Tuna-roa, so, he dug a
huge ditch and soon the water came out with Tuna-roa.
It
was Tuna-roa's lunch time when Maui caught him in the net, he was very
hungry since Maui had taken out everything from the swamp.
Because of his weakness, Maui cut him easily into many pieces.
And Maui died peacefully after revenge.
The
cut-up pieces of Tuna-roa's bodies swam back to the river. The head became a fish as large as a dolphin, the tail became
a sea eel, and the small pieces of Tuna-roa's body changed into freshwater
eels.
Until
now, we still us the tools that Maui invented to kill Tuna-roa, a pump, a
spade, a screw and a screwdriver.
