Censorship

I wrote an article based on certain events and the hypocrisy thereof which a few, or many, I don’t know which, seemed to find objectionable. The result was that I was told not to write anything about the Clinton, Lewinsky, and related topics.

I didn’t create the situation I wrote about any more than any other American that has been of age to vote during my lifetime. What I mean is we are at fault for everything now occurring in the capitol of this nation. We have allowed politicians to do as they will once they get into public office.

The fact is corruption, immorality, lack of integrity, failing as positive role models for the youth of this nation do not fall within any boundaries defined by any specific political party. For every deceitful, immoral act done by a Democrat, you will find a like act done by a Republican. It is the nature of the animal, a nature we could control but choose not to.

Political party politics, politics that serve the party rather than the people, have deteriorated to a degree they now serve only as a negative role model for all of us, not only the youth of this nation. If I were from another country, I would look at this nation and wonder why the people allow the deceitful to run the country.

But, I am not from another country. I am from this country and I believe strongly in the views of our forefathers that founded this nation as a Republic. I believe strongly in the principles of a Republic and the rights given to the people in a Republic, rights that are being removed one by one.

To make one thing clear, we are not a democratic form of government. We, the people, do not legislate laws which is what a democracy is. We, the people, must express our views to those we elect to serve us by legislating for the good of the many. That is a Republic and that is "for which we stand".

By the lack of participation in elections, by our lack of telling our legislators what we want, by not making demands they serve only as positive role models, by not insisting all corruption must cease to exist, we are allowing our Republic to become an oligarchy, a totalitarian government, in which government is for the few, not the many.

I do not like the party system and believe strongly it interferes with good government. I do not like politicians essentially being above the laws of this nation, nor do I like the fact that we take whatever they dole out. I believe, as George Washington did, that we must keep constant vigilance over Congress and do what is necessary to stop any actions we do not like.

You see, Folks, every societal negative we have, including but not exclusive of, sexual mores, political corruption, drug usage, racism, one-sided media reporting and its attempts to influence your thoughts, crime, justice/injustice, law enforcement, and education developed because of our own complacency and desire to not get involved or by not having the willingness to take the time to express our views.

A few gave Mr. Greg Arrear flak over my articles which used Burton (R-IN) as the focal point. A few (or many) expressed their views and a change was affected - I was effectively censored from writing about the terrible mess our nation was thrown into.

It clearly shows two concepts clearly. The first is that speaking out can result in change, whether the change be positive or negative.

The second is that a few can effectively apply censorship to any form of media. In other words, you can change what you don’t like, be it politically or socially.

On the negative side, however, it also means that a few in power often have the ability to control what is printed or stated even if not for the good of the majority.

However, from my viewpoint, it is plainly and simply a violation of my First Amendment rights. To convey my beliefs concerning improving our Republic has been my goal, a goal that relies on a climate free of any form of censorship.

No one person can possibly be more tired of the situation we are currently in than myself. For a week and a half, it was mentally impossible for me to listen to any news or to read any newspaper I obtain over the net, simply because all are focused on the mess created by our legislators in Washington, DC, and our own apathy towards getting involved.

But, Ladies and Gentlemen, the situation that has taken up hundreds of hours of television time and millions of written words points out as clearly as it can be why the people of this nation must start giving the efforts required by a Republic form of government.

And the effort required is not just voting. You must make your views known to your legislators, both nationally and locally, whether it be by writing letters, sending emails, or making phone calls. You must keep constant vigilance on your elected officials. Then, and only then, will we rid ourselves of corrupt, immoral, and unethical leadership.

Final Note: I thank those readers of the DNB who have expressed their thoughts, positive or negative, concerning my past commentary. It is, regardless of any consequences affecting me, a start in the right direction.
