Republican hypocrisy

Well, tomorrow is the big day as far as President Clinton is concerned. Actually, guess it will be for the Republican Party along with Starr, too, since their months and months of vendetta against Mr. Clinton is finally coming to a head.

This AM on NBC's Today show, Senator Orrin Hatch was interviewed. He is worried about Mr. Clinton testifying fully and truthfully, as are others. He is also worried about Mr. Clinton as a role model if he did, indeed, lie about Lewinsky. He actually stated that it wouldn't be a good example for America. What hypocrisy.

When asked about the Gingrichs, Armeys, Reagans, and other leading politicians including himself that have had extra-marital or other sexual affairs and lied about them for years, Hatch got off of that real quick by stating basically that Republicans who lie and have sex outside of marriage shouldn't be investigated, that Mr. Clinton is the number one man in America.

Here is what I see. If it had been a Republican president with a Republican Congress, the issue would never have been brought up to the public.

After all, Gingrich is third in line for the presidency and may - God forbid - run for president. He has done far worse than Mr. Clinton and has had the Republican Party's blessing as evidenced by his retaining his position not only in the House, but as House Speaker.

If the Republican Party had not been determined to undermine President Clinton and the Democrat Party for the same things it does (and gets away with) along with the backing of the media that would rather have scandal than the truth, Lewinsky's name would not be known to the public.

The media, Starr, and Republicans have relied in part on 'sources', unknown faceless persons who apparently know everything but are afraid to show their faces. Often, I think sources are media personnel and other anti-Clintonites creating stories to negatively influence the public or just for the sake of having stories.

But, the Republicans and media sure made less than honest use of them. Anything that could spread the blight of anti-Clintonism has been used. And, to the degree that no ordinary person has the slightest idea as to the truth.

I believe at least 90 percent of Washington politicians have had sex outside of marriage, have lied and do lie about sex, contributions and voting for special interest groups' benefit rather than the public's benefit. I also believe their concerns over integrity, corruption, and the like are a bunch of hooey.

In short, I don't believe many politicians would recognize the truth if it rose up and bit them on the buttocks.

Or, maybe they can in their twisted minds. You see, in their perspective, truth, integrity, and morality are whatever suits their purposes at the time. Maybe that is why they tell lie after lie so effectively.

But - - Is that the perspective we really want in Washington??

Or, Ladies and Gentlemen, would we rather have people of unquestionable integrity and morality in Washington serving as role models for the youth of America?
