This anime is a toughie to explain. This anime has many parts to it, the Macross Saga, Southern Cross, Invid Invasion, The Sentinels, the End Circle, and stuff in between, and then there are the movies but I haven't quite gotten that deep yet :P. All the series have lots of fighting, romance, adventure, and mystery put all together.

Macross Saga

The Macross Saga takes place during the very early 2000's on a place called Macross Island and a mysterious ship has been "accidentally" crash landed there as a desperate attempt to save the technology it held from warring races. At this time the human race is in a global civil war and this ship has saved the humans from themselves. The humans claim the SDF-1 and all its technology for themselves. It just so happens that the Zentraedi(an alien race that is about 60ft. tall, look just like humans, & the cause for the ships crash) come back for "their" SDF-1 and wage a war on Earth against the humans. A stunt flyer, Rick Hunter (Hikaru in Japanese), enlists in the military with help from his friend and ace fighter pilot, Roy Fokker. Rick is constantly being critisized by the 1st officer Lisa Hayes (Misa) and is met up with many other challenges during the war. However, as time passes on he becomes more and more trustworthy for the commanding officers of the military and it looks like Earth might actually have a chance at defeating the Zentraedi.

The Zentraedi Rebelion

The war against the Zentraedi has ended and the time for reconstruction and rebirth has come. The SDF-3 is just about finished and everything looks like it will go on schedule. However not everyone is happy about the way things turned out. Zentraedi malcontents trouble Captain Max Sterling and his wife Miria Parino, Rick Hunter's confidence in himself as a newly promoted admiral drops dramatically, and the Robotech Masters are closer than the humans think. Can Lisa Hayes and Rick Hunter complete the deceased Admiral Gloval's mission to find the Masters before they get to Earth? Or will these problems end up being a larger threat than the Masters?

The Sentinels

The year is 2020, and the long deceased Admiral Gloval's mission to Tirol and make negotiations with the Robotech Master's is about to launch under the command of Admiral Lisa Hunter and Rear Admiral Rick Hunter. Using the newly completed SDF-3, the Robotech Expeditionary Force's(REF) chances for survival were still very slim. However the Robotech Master's were already en route to Earth and when they get to Tirol the REF will be in for a huge surprise... and yet an even larger adventure than they had expected... The SDF-3 and it's crew are trapped in space after battling constantly against Invid troops. Hoping to find their way home the SDF-3 and crew make new allies and take up another mission, to liberate the Sentinel worlds that the close-by Invid have taken over and to hopefully destroy the Invid Regent and Regis...

Southern Cross

Southern Cross takes place on Earth. This time the Robotech Masters, who controlled the Zentraedi, are after the so called "precious" Protoculture and Flower of Life and they have come to Earth to take it from them. Captain Max Sterling(one of Rick Hunter's squadmates and best friends)'s daughter, Lieutenant Dana Sterling, and her battle-ready 15th squadron of hovertanks must save the Earth and humans from destruction and further uncover the mysteries behind this so called Protoculture. Meanwhile the Invid are on their way and want to take Earth and its "hidden" treasures for themselves.

Invid Invasion

The Invid Invasion takes place on Earth. In this one the Invid have come and taken over most of Earth and devastated the humans greatly. Admiral Rick Hunter's fleet had been destroyed over Earth and killed all but one survivor, Scott Bernard. As Scott tries to overthrow the Invid's reign over Earth, he enlists allies and friends to help in the fight for mankind. Can Scott and his rag-tag army overthrow the Invid reign or will they die trying?
