The following was taken from a church document - an interesting view on the Internet

I have yet to hear anyone discuss the influence of technology on religious faith. How did the Nintendo generation develop? Computer game stores are chock o block with games most of which seem to be games of pursuit ending in killing. On the other hand being able to communicate with a son or Daughter a best friend of social group, who are oceans apart,is community building . The world wide web, links ideas and information, bulletin boards and chat rooms, truly creating a global village. Information is available to all rather than being the reserve of a few.

In the song "Eleanor Rigby" the beatles had a line "all the lonely people". The interent is a real gift to those who suffer from loneliness. There are words of comfort and compassion within easy reach. The Jesuit sponsored www.sacredspace.ie is a wonderful example of this. For those looking for a few moments of reflection as they sit before the computer I can heartly recommend Sacred Space. For others who wish to access a thought or meditation based on the Sunday readings , I put up www.staudeons.dublindiocese.ie every week.

Religon has not been slow to use the modern technology in the service of the Gospel. For instance, if you want to access Church Documents, even before they are published try www.vatican.va. This is a window on the vatacin and includes recent documents and the text of Papal audiences. For those who are looking for accurate on the teaching of the Church try www.catholic-pages.com? I think it is a pity to hear so many people contradict Church teachings or presuming to know what it is, without informing them selves. Other sites of interest are www.cwn.com a comprehensive Catholic news service by subscription.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of interest may be www.catholic-ministries.com/retreats - news of retreats throughout the country. www.jubileeireland.com celebrating the 2000 anniversary of the birth of Christ. A good site for those wanting to know more about scriptures comes from Fr. Tom lane at www.frtommylane.ie - The Dublin Diocesan web site also has good links that are a help to searching www.dublindiocese.ie
