Our Quilts

This is a strip pieced Sheep baby quilt that measures 28" x 38". The pattern is from Debbie Mumm's book "Quick Country Quilts". Liam is trying out his baby quilt in our living room!!!!

This is the finished "Breakfast in Bed" quilt from Joan Hanson and Mary Hickey's Joy of Quilting book. The blocks for this quilt were part of a swap from Quiltbee. It was the first internet block swap that I participated in almost 2 years ago and I've only just completed the top for the quilt. I hope to complete the entire quilt in 1999.

Lyle and I are both members of Friendship Quilter's in Linthicum, Maryland. In May 1998 guild put forward a challenge. Those who participated were given packets of 35 fabrics 6" square and we had to use all but two of those fabrics but we could add as many of our own as we wanted. This quilt is the result of that challenge. Although it isn't bound and quilted yet I did manage to get it basted together for the photograph.

This is the Twisted Tales Mystery quilt from Qzine. This was the first mystery quilt that I attempted and had a lot of fun doing it. For more information about mystery quilts and the Mystery Quilters mail list click on Kim Graham's link below.

This is the Miter She Wrote mystery. I decided to participate in the block exchange that was part of this mystery and had a lot of fun doing it. Although, it was quite a challenge getting the blocks done in time to swap them!!! I had the quilt long arm quilted by Penny Streeter at Penny's Patches in Troy, Pennsylvania. You can email Penny here

This is the Whirlwind Mystery that was recently run on Quilt Channel. It was a one day mystery where the clues were put up on the net one every hour. The mystery started at 9:00 am and finished at 4:00 pm. It was a lot of fun to do. Lots of people on Mystery Quilter's did this mystery and entered it into the competition that Quilt Channel hosted. I submitted a photo of mine to them and my quilt won an honorable mention.

This is the first top that I have put together with the block of the month leaf blocks I won a year ago this past fall!!! I have several others ready to go together but other projects keep getting in the way of my UFO pile!!

The following quilt was an applique pattern that I was given by a friend. I put the quilted wallhanging together in one evening and had it quilted. The finished size is approximately the same size as a placemat so it's not big and it was super easy. The entire top is fused down to a background fabric then quilted and thread painted. I would recommend using Wonder Under or Steam A Seam for a project like this because it is layered and both these products can withstand multiple heat applications from the iron.

The following quilt is one that I compiled. The blocks were all donated by Quilttalk members for the benefit of our fellow member Carol (Allisonsmom) who is expecting a baby any day now (3/99). Everyone who could, donated a block and I put the quilt together, bound it, and quilted it and sent it off to her. Another Quilttalker took the pictures of her opening the box and Carol's reaction to it. To see more go there Carol's Quilts

This is my Kaleidoscope Quilt that I made in a workshop with Bonnie McCaffery. I titled it "When I Grow Old..." because the predominant color is purple. I still haven't decided how I'm going to quilt it but I will someday, but for now I will just admire it. It was a very easy quilt to do, despite the illusion that it would be difficult. It is almost completely paperpieced except for the 8 pointed star in the center which is fussy cut and attached to the kaleidoscope portion of the quilt. The workshop was the first I had taken in some time and enjoyed it immensely. I entered this quilt in the Anne Arundel County Fair and I won a second place ribbon for it.

This quilt is called "Confetti" and it was a mystery quilt designed by Tyanne Agle. I loved doing it. I am probably a very sadistic person for loving to make half square triangles!!! The design is really nice and the colors go really well together. I had it long arm quilted by Penny Streeter, at Penny's Patches in Troy, Pennsylvania. I entered this quilt in the Anne Arundel County Fair and it received a third place ribbon.

This is a quilted table runner that I made from a mystery called the 12 days of Christmas. Each day a different clue was given so that the project would be finished in time for Christmas and still be enough time to relax. It was a lot of fun.

This quilt is a culmination of efforts. It is a result of a challenge offered on "Mystery Quilters". It is the Ugly Duckling Challenge. I swapped ugly fat quarters with Beth Ferrier from Michigan. Then we each purchased 1/2 yard of coordinating fabric and exchange a fat quarter of that. The challenge was to use noticeable amounts of the ugly fabrics and coordinates in a quilt and we could use any other fabrics that we chose to. This is my quilt. I used a bricks and mortar pattern and the quilt is a full size. I actually like it. There aren't any birds in there yet but there will be once it is quilted.

I have not been all that busy this spring producting quilts but here is one that I did using "quilt fuse" and Mimi Dietrich's book "Pink Ribbon Quilts" as my inspiration. I used only 3 fabrics a focus fabric for the heart and border and a background fabric plus a coordinating fabric for the inside border. I will be teaching this as a class at JoAnn ETC in Bel Air, Maryland.

I participated in a row robin with some ladies from the Mystery Quilter's mail list. This was a row that I made for Jan Smith (Quiltaholic Jan) in Toledo, Ohio. I used a pattern from Quiltmaker magazine called Dresden Flowers. It was a lot of fun and really enjoyed it. The blocks are 9 1/2" (9" finished) and the row was 54 inches long.
