Whether old friend or new...

Welcome to Ballymac.

In former times, natives of Eire used the word bally, translated to mean "settlement," to designate a town or village. By combining this word with the distinctive character of our family name, Ballymac was born.

A brief note on the history of the McCormacks:
-
McCormack is a common surname in Eire and is distributed widely throughout the four provinces. Although there was a small sept of the name in County Longford, in most cases the name appeared independently where individuals took their fathers' christian name, "Cormac." In the sixteenth century the McCormacks were leading gentry in Cork. During the Elizabethan Wars a McCormack raised a large force to help Desmond or the Munster branch of the Fitzgeralds.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
