Two Coon Junction was established in Belgium in 1996. We made the decision to start breeding after getting our first Maine Coon. He ( Alpha ) was a great cat with many problems. Although these problems didn't affect his health, they were definite signs that the breeder had very little concern for the quality of their cats. Yes, we should have gathered more information before taking Alpha, but he was so sweet. Soon a second Maine Coon joined our home and with the help of our mentor and a lot of information, Two Coon Junction was born.
Since then , we have been lucky to get some beautiful cats to be the foundation of our cattery. Out of our first litter, we kept a silver boy, who is our current stud. We are not a big cattery and do not plan on having a large number of cats. We want to be able to give our cats a lot of attention and let them have free access to our home. We had 11 cats living with us, when we made the decision to go live in the US. It was hard to decide who could go, and who couldn't. We finally went with our 4 breeders, our 12 year old household pet, our 9 year old Birman (my first pedigree cat) and one of Annie and Dicky's kittens, to show as an alter.
After the obligatory period of being inactive because of the move, we are now back on track. We found a beautiful home. The cats are all settling in fine. Our boy has his quarters in our master bedroom, as he did in Belgium. He does not spray and loves the attention. Our girls have the run of the house and enjoy watching the birds and squirrels in the yard. They are amazed with the new variety of animals outside and love spending their day laying in the sun (a rare commodity in Belgium) just looking at the wildlife.
Our cattery has always done it's best to place the concerns of our cats before everything else. We recognize the health problems that can affect the Maine Coon and are doing all we can to help ensure that our kittens leave for their new homes with the best chance possible of having a long and healthy life.
