Charlie Thurman was said to have been murdered, shot by Joe Hogan, at a dance
 that was held in the house that was once owned by Joseph Wesley Callahan. The
 house is no longer standing, it burnt many years ago. It was located in the 
woods behind the house currently owned by Elizabeth Callahan Hendricks.

 the attorney for the commonwealth it is ordered that a copias be issued for the
 defendant, Joe Hogan, returnable to the first day of the week of the next term
 of court."

Pg. 296  November 12, 1909
"Commonwealth of Virginia VS George Williams, Felix Yancy and Joe Hogan,
 respectivily. The attorney for the Commonwealth, with the consent
 of the court says he will not prosecute further any of these indictments,
 whereupon, it is considered by the court that the said defendants from the
 respective indictments against them be dismissed and go thereof without day."

The County Court
Jury Unable to Agree in Burton Murder Case.
 
Rustburg, Va. January 11. Special court convened at 10 a.m. in the case of
 Commonwealth vs Walter Burnett, colored for felonious assault on
 Cornelious Hayes also colored, at Lynn Brothers Camp near Lynchs in October last,
 the prisoner was represented by Mr. Duncan Drysdale, of Lynchburg. The prisoner
 was found guilty.
	The case of Jim Jones colored, for felonious assault, in October last on
 Mr. C. Still Withers , of Lynchs was called. Jones being without counsel the
 court appointed Judge Nelson to defend him. Judge Nelson expressed his
 willingness to serve the court but suggested that Mr. W. C. Carrington of
 Lynchburg who was present in court be appointed in his stead which was done.
 Mr. Carrington had no witnesses but made a splendid talk. Jones was found guilty
 and given two years in the penitentiary.
	Court reconvened at 2:20 p. m. 
	The case of Commonwealth vs. Mead Burton, colored, for killing his wife,
 Maggie Burton, at Lynchs on November 3 was called. Mr. Duncan Drysdale also
 represented this party. The case was given to the jury about 5:30 p. m. The court
 after being out about an hour reported that it could not agree. The court then
 turned the jury over to the sheriff to be kept together tonight and suspended
 court until Wednesday at ten o'clock.
	The grand jury which was empaneled Monday morning but did not finish
 their work last night returned this morning the following indictments:
	Joe Hogan for murder.
	Felix Yancey for murder.
	Jim Jones for felonious assault.
	James Carter for felonious assault.
	A Italian named Toney for house breaking and larceny.
The members of the grand jury were as follows:
