I am looking for a Philip LYKINS that lived in Wayne Co, IN in and before 1840. He was originally from the Montgomery and Franklin Co., VA areas. I understand the portion he lived and is buried in, is now Henry Co, IN . Can anyone tell me anything about this county, or possibly have info on Philip? His wife was named Rhoda, again he died in 1840. Any information is needed , I've got a 20 year span where I lose he and his family migrating from VA to IN. Thanks in Advance

Need information on family of Rosie Ann DECKER & John Henry MERVIN who lived near Ridgeville in Jay Co., IN. Rosie born 1873 & died 1955. John born 1876 (in OH)& died 1944. They were married 1896. Both buried Ritenour Cemetery, Ridgeville, IN. They lived for a time in Richmond, Wayne Co. IN. John may have died in Richmond. John's parents were George MERVIN & Rebecca SWOPE, who may have died in Randolph Co. IN. Searching for John Harvey WILSON b ca 1835. Mom said it was Indiana but don't know where. He came to Monroe Co,Tn and married Harriet BURNHAM in 1858. They had 8 sons: William, Frances, Arthur, Charlie, Harrison, John, Jack, and Sam.

My ancestors connections to Wayne County are as follows: William STIDHAM (1771-1853) brought his family to Wayne County about 1820 from Delaware. His daughter, Elizabeth (1806-1877) married Isaac JEFFERIS (1804-1840) on 8 June 1825 in Wayne County. All three of these individuals died in Wayne County.

Ann SHARPLESS Carter Jefferis (1761-1844), already twice a widow, arrived within a few years of the Stidhams with her close-to-grown children, including Isaac. It's unclear whether they moved directly from Chester County, Penn., with her husband, Abraham JEFFERIS (1763-1822) dying enroute or they actually settled for a time in Clinton County, Ohio, where Abraham died at the home of a daughter by his first marriage. Isaac was disciplined by the Quakers for marrying outside his faith. Ann died in Wayne County.

Elijah Iles KERLIN (1809-1901), his wife Milly Milinda SANDS (1803-1879), and the two oldest of their eventual 11 children moved to Wayne County in the early 1830s from Washington County, Tenn. They lived the rest of their lives in Wayne County. Their son and my great-great grandfather, William Kendrick KERLIN (1832-1903), married Hannah Bennett JEFFERIS (1830-1909), daughter of Isaac JEFFERIS and Elizabeth STIDHAM, on 1 Dec. 1853 in Wayne County. William and Hannah moved their family to Darke County, Ohio, in 1865 and spent the rest of their lives there.

My great grandmother, Anna Elizabeth KERLIN Seitz (1854-1918), daughter of William and Hannah was born in Wayne County and lived the first 10 or 11 years of her life there. I have also seen references to her briefly practicing osteopathy in Richmond, Ind., but don't know the exact period. She became a doctor of osteopathy in the late 1890s, more than 15 years after her husband died, and she practiced in several places before returning home to Greenville for the last several years of her life.

I'am researching the HUNTZINGER family that lived in Wayne Co., Indiana durning the 1840 - 1850 period. Henry HUNTZINGER was married to Anna PEACOCK on Jan. 2, 1838 in Wayne Co., Indiana. I have the National Archives records of Arnestruss HUNT and part of his pension request he stated he was born in Wayne Co in 1837. I have family records that state that Job HUNT and Rosetta STONE were his parents. Family records show that they had abt 10 children in all. Looking for any info on Job or Rosetta , were they just passing thru the area to Marion Co where Arnestruss turned up next or ???? BERRY 1850 Wayne Co., IN census shows Richard BERRY with wife Elizabeth and children Letitice, Mary Ann, Rebecca, Thomas J., and Nancy Burton. Richard BERRY was listed as a cabinetmaker. Would appreciate any info on this family.

Biographical and History of Wayne Co., Indiana states they were from North Carolina. 1850 Census says Tennesee. Third wife was Martha. Bought much property in Wayne County and died in 1856

HALL/SWISHER/RODGERS: In the 1860 census for Wayne Co., Clay Twp., p. 271, there are three millers living adjacent to each other: Daniel RODGERS (b. abt 1814, NY, and family), Abraham SWISHER (b. abt 1830, OH, and family, and Ark M. HALL (b. abt 1826, and family). Ark M. HALL is probably a son of James HALL & Sally JENKS, and grandson of Arke JENKS. Abraham SWISHER names one of his children Arke. The only people I've ever seen with given name of "Arke/Ark" are descendants or relatives of Arke JENKS. Would like to know surname of Emily SWISHER, Abraham SWISHER's wife. And any information about these families. Abraham SWISHER remained in Clay Twp. Ark HALL & Daniel RODGERS seem to have left before 1870 census. Thank you very much.

My WHITACRE family came to Richmond in Wayne county in 1802. I am also linked to the Jonathan ROBERTS family which built the first school house in Wayne county. My great great grandmother was Sarah ROBERTS. My great grandfather was Recorder in the late 1800's.

James Clarence DAVIS was born 22 Nov 1883 in Darke County, Ohio. However, I have not been able to find proof of his birth. I have a picture of him circa 1887 from Richmond, Indiana. Is there anyone out there that has ANY information on Morgan C.(?) McMAHAN and his family?? Morgan was in the Wayne county, Indiana in the 1820 Federal Census. Morgan had a daughter Sarah (or Sallie) McMAHAN born 1808 and who was married in Randolph County in 1823 to Gabriel FENDER. Sarah died in 1847 in Wayne County. Morgan appears to have come from Rowan county, N. Carolina and it is very possible that Sarah was also. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to locate Wayne County Circuit Court Records concerning the naturalization of my gggrandfather Michael BOFINGER. An Index to Naturalization Records Prior to 1907 shows this record to be in Vol. H page 234 1843. We have contacted Wayne County Circuit Court and they do not have the volume. I checked in the court house June,1995. Does anyone know where this information might be found? We have been told it was microfilmed as a part of a WPA work project possibly #70039-0. He had a grocery(?) store located on N. 8th and Elm Place. He and his wife had 9 children. His son, Thomas MCCARTHY, had a son named Thomas Edward MCCARTHY (my father's father).

The bible says she was born on March 20, 1845, in Wain (sic) Co. Indianna. I am presuming that "Wain" should be "Wayne." She married Samuel McGOWAN (b. June 9, 1836, in Knox Co. Ohio) on Oct 29, 1865 (place not given). I am not sure when they moved, but their son, Charles, was born in Topeka, KS, on May 19, 1871. Charles and Elizabeth were married in Lyndon, Oasge Co., Ks, on March 12, 1894. The witnesses were W.D. EDMAN and Lenora EDMAN. I would appreciate any information on any of these folks.

I'm looking for Emma B. POLLOCK. I only know that she married Samuel Steddam MOTE 26 May 1869. She was his second wife. He was rocf (received on certificate from) Miami MM (Warren Co.) The 1850 census of Wayne Co lists a Frances W. ROBINSON b. 1811 Maryland and wife Susan (ERWIN) b. 1815 in Delaware. (They were married in 1836 in Wayne Co.) I am trying to find the family of Alexander ROBERTSON/ROBINSON/ROBISON who was born 29 Dec 1830 in Indiana. He married 16 Mar 1851 in Martin Co. Indiana to Martha Jane GOLD. I am looking for any information about the Wernle Orphans Home established in January 1879 by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. In journal written by my great uncle, John NEU, it was located in Richmond on a hill, Rose Hill or Rose Mound. Before being purchased by the church it was either a medical institution or a sanitarium. There is supposed to be a cemetery at this location where my great uncle, Karl NEU, is buried. Priscilla was living with James MEREDITH and family while Henry was with Way and Hannah JEFFRIE (JEFFERIES/JEFFREY/JEFFERIS). Relatives reported that the STARBUCKS were related to the CADWALLADERS. Harlan Parker JARRETT was the son of James JARRETT and Sarah Ann ROBBINS. James JARRETT was probably the son of William JARRETT and Nancy. The first William R. JARRETT was married to Abbie Elizabeth WISSLER and she was the daughter of Henry T. WISSLER and Amanda.

BENDEL, GOLDMAN, GRAY- Harry Louis BENDEL was the son of Edward Henry BENDEL and Carrie GOLDMAN. He was born in Richmond on 21 August 1867. Mary BENDEL was the daughter of Harry Louis BENDEL and Laura GRAY. She was born in Richmond on 20 July 1887. The only problem is that their families lived in Jeffersonville, Fayette County, Ohio at the times of the birth of each. So why were they both born in Richmond. There is no indication of illegitimacy since marriages preceded births.

Carl SWAIN is my great grandfather. His death certificate lists him as being the son of Job SWAIN and Adry BENNETT. Carl was born around 1880 and died in 1944. He is buried at Economy Cemetery. There is a question about whether or not Carl's father is John SWAIN or Job SWAIN. Can somebody help me with a marriage date between either of these SWAINS and Adry BENNETT? I have no dates or info on this side of my family beyond Carl. Thank you
