AIREDALES
General Introduction to the Breed
Airedales are the biggest and hardiest of the terriers, commonly called ”King of the
Terriers.”
It is recommend that you have a sense of humor or you shouldn’t have an Airedale. These free thinking animals are clownish and smarter then you at times with TONS of personality. Highly intelligent, they were bred full of tenacity, courage and true terrier spirit. They are an athletic breed with energy, drive, stamina and gameness, not at all yappy like some of the smaller terriers.
Adventurous, this is not an animal to hang around the house if there’s a squirrel in the area needing his attention. He needs room to run and exercise, so a safe fenced yard and frequent walks are recommended. True to their terrier blood, they enjoy digging holes.
Temperament
Like people, Airedales vary in temperament slightly but as a breed, are trustworthy
and affectionate. Gentle and obedient with a temper that is slow to rise, they can live
compatibly with other dogs. An Airedale is a kind, even tempered animal, good with children,
showing a sweet (hound-like) disposition with deep natural, protective instincts that make
them a guardian of children, sheep or poultry.
Children
Airedales and children go together naturally because of their common interest
in action and play. They are often so devoted to their child that the dogs are
happiest sleeping near the child at night.
