Airedales

Raising and Training
An Airedale is never too young or too old to learn. They need to be raised with a lot of attention and affection coupled with firmness and consistency, or you could end up with a juvenile delinquent. Training turns them into polite, well mannered companions. A 1 yr. old is full sized but still mentally immature. Their brains seem to mature at about 2 yr.
They have a high desire to please and with their high intelligence they bore easily. The repetition of the standard drill and jerk training methods don’t work and they do better when the training is interesting, fun and treat orientated. They respond better to praise than punishment.

Coat and Grooming
Airedales have a wire coat that is low in odor and is dirt repelling. It is almost non shedding and you won’t find dog hair all over your house, clothes or your car. To keep the trim terrier profile, purists hand strip their dogs several times a year but most owners prefer to clipper their dog 3-4 times a year.

Vetting
Airedales are relatively healthy breed compared to other purebreds but you should choose your Vet carefully. Airedales are their own worst enemy, rarely showing pain. They can be seriously ill before presenting any symptoms at all. Your Vet must understand this. If the dog appears sick or in distress YOU must understand it usually is very serious and requires attention NOW!
