Progress Report
Kappa-Epsilon Academy
December 1999 -- January 2000
Mid-December was the End of our First Semester. We then took a 2-week Christmas break to better enjoy the holidays and spending time with visiting friends and family. Our second semester welcomes the new Millennium (NOT !) and marks the beginning of some new subjects here at Kappa-Epsilon.
Math:
Kevin has finished his Saxon Algebra 2 book. He had a bit of trouble with a difficult final test, scoring a 78%, his final average for our first semester is a very respectable 92%.
Erin continues work with both Key to Algebra and Key to Geometry.
We've begun our second semester with some "brain-awakening" algebra tests covering Linear Equations, Inequalities, Exponents, Polynomials and Rational Expressions.
Vocabulary, Language Arts: In Vocabulary we are finishing up our weekly lists of 15 words. It looks like we'll have enough words to last to the end of this semester, then we will review the entire list, matching up words with similar meanings, finding opposites, and attempt to incorporate these words in our creative writing work.
In Language Arts we are focusing mainly on Creative Writing this year. I've asked Kevin and Erin to choose at least one favorite from their first semester work, and "polish" it up into a finished work for this semester.
We have also began to use Daily Grammar work sheets for fun and to review some of what we learned.
We are also continuing Greek and Latin root words-to help with our vocabulary skills-the words we've learned in December & January are--
- thermos -- heat
- curro/cursum -- run
- zoon -- animal
- verto/versum -- turn
- facio/factum -- do, make
