Welcome to my Home on the Web, I have been here for a year now, and I am becoming addicted to the web. My only regret is that I know there is too much out there for me to ever find. I am a mother of 4, who's main focus in life is parenting. I am also a college student at Mesa Community College .I have not taken any classes about the internet, but I used the Internet for my English and other classes. MCC is offering classes that are taught over the Internet, so you do do not have to go to the college campus.
As a new person to the web, I spent numerous hours looking for things that were of interest to me as a mother.  Our children are 3, 7, 9 and 12.  We believe that learning doesn't just belong in the classroom, so I have spent time searching for Web pages that are not just fun, but promote learning in the children.
Last year we took our first Major Vacation since we have had four children, and we used the internet to gather information before we went. Our trip was a 5 day vacation to Disneyland . Before we went we were armed with every thing from a Road Map to the locations of all the Rest rooms at Disneyland.
I will also include links to information I have had to look for for one reason or another. I will try not to include links for children that are purely commercial. If you find that I have included a link that leads to just an advertisement please e-mail me.
Parenting
I am a full-time mother, and parenting is my career.  I am also a college student, when I can fit it in, and a writer who has only had "Opinion's" published so far. My most serious opinion concerning parenting is this, there is no answer that is always RIGHT to "what should I do?" There is one answer that is always WRONG and that is to take your anger and frustrations out on the child.
I know that parenting is one of the hardest jobs a person can have, but it is also the most rewarding.  It is never easy, no matter how  long you've been at it, or how many children you have.  But there are some things that can make it easier.
First, always remember you are not alone.  Even the perfect mommys in the store who look at you weird, have the same problems you do.  Where ever you live, there are other's who feel the same fears and frustrations, and if you seem to have no one who you can talk to, look in your local phone book for a Parents Anonymous group.  Most people seem to think that this is a group for parents who have abused their children, when actually their goal is to prevent child abuse. PA is a group of parents who meet and share their fears, frustrations, and ideas on what to do with other parents. If there is no Parents Anonymous, then contact a school, church or other family oriented center for what may be in your area.
Second, remember that when all else fails, a smile or hug usually can help.  In ten years will it really matter if your 3 yr. old spilled milk on your carpet 4 times in one day?  Probably not, but it could make a difference if you've hugged him today.
Finally, try to understand your child from the child's point of view, I know they do not come with instructions, but with the information that is available to us in the computer age, there is no excuse for not knowing what is age appropriate to the child. Understanding that they are reacting normally to a situation is comforting. We then know the tantrum is not because we are "bad" parents, but because of them, and their age it is easier to understand.  Information is abundant, and parenting classes are a great idea.  Knowing too much about children is not possible, but knowing too little can be dangerous. Please see my page of parenting links.
Please try to enjoy your child's life it goes much to fast.

The internet is a wonderful place to share with your children, and there are so many great opportunities to teach them.  Please know that the best way to keep them safe on here is Supervision.  There are programs that can help, but having the computer in a focus location, where they are not alone, is the best option if you can do it.  Not only can you glance at the screen and see what they are doing, but if they need help they can ask.  It also helps them to not become a "computer recluse" who thinks computing is a one person sport.  In our house even looking for animal sounds becomes a family project.  I have other suggestions on my hints and tips page, listed further down.

I also am a firm believer in the straw that broke the camel's back, if there is something in your child's life, or your community that is detrimental to his or her welfare, only you can change it.  Complainer's accomplish nothing.  If you believe something is wrong, let someone know. Remember, though, with email you do not have the opportunity to tear it up before you mail it, so be sure you are saying what you want someone to hear, and not just your anger .
