For the ultimate in atmosphere, quality as well as quantity, this restaurant must make the top of the list in Virginia. The entry is a restored 17th century mansion with your choice of an airy porch with rockers or a cozy room with fireplace and romantic lighting to await seating. But don't let the enchanting surroundings of the entrance beguile you ... the spacious luxury and opulence of the actual dining room are near palatial.
Although all items are ale-carte, they are served family style (meaning that they can be shared among your dining party. And take it from this connoisseur, you will definitely need to. The asparagus with hollandaise, the garlic mashed potatoes, seafood or beef are all served in portions entirely too large for one person or one meal even though the flavors and cusine may certainly tempt you to feats of gluttony never before attempted. Terri and I usually split everything. The beef is outstanding! It comes to the table sizzling, flavorful and juicy. I have yet to have a complaint.
The superb filet mignon, other steaks, lobsters and side dishes are some of the best I have experienced in the Old Dominion. Be warned, the prices are rather higher than other restaurants in the area, but for a special occasion, it is worth the drive and expense.
