| The Villa of Mysteries is actually an entire complex on the outer part of Pompeii. It was divided into two sections, the first of which was a very luxurious living area. The rest of it was a working farm, complete with its own wine press. The villa is removed from the bustling center of Pompeii life on purpose...the upper class wanted to escape the increasingly chaotic downtown area with its "uncultured" business people. In other words, they were snobs! ;-) | | |
