Even More Pompeii

The statue of Eumachia, priestess of Venus, and two adoring fans. Euchamia owned and ran a wool business. The building was not fully reconstructed in between the earthquake of 62 AD and the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. This statue was dedicated to her and stands in back of the building ruins. |

There were thirty active bakeries in Pompeii. We must have run across every one of them! We found dozens these millstones up and down the streets. What I found remarkable, though, were the stores that sold what we would consider fast food. Walk up counters still remain, a favorite of Katy to find. McDonald's obviously had nothing on Pompeii. |
