Birth Without Violence by Frederick Leboyer. This is a fascinating book, and at this link you can read it online and see the pictures from the book. It's very easy to read and is written in a beautiful, poetic style. You will learn that babies have intense feelings when they are born and should be treated with gentleness. The gentle birth descibed and explained in this book includes the following ideas: birth should take place in semi-darkness; it should be quiet in the room; the cord should not be cut until it stops pulsing; the baby should be put immediately on his mother's tummy. Leboyer also says that babies should be given a warm, relaxing bath soon after birth. Many feel that waterbirth is a natural extension of gentle birth.
