Alyssia is now 28 months old and is still nursing actively. It is clear she loves to nurse more than anything and will never say "no" if I suggest it. I believe she adores the closeness (as do I). We look into each others eyes, hold hands, I tell her how much I love her and how she is "mommy's little girl." Her eyes are so calm and deep when she is nursing. Our nursing frequency varies but averages about 2-5 times a day. It depends on how stressful the day has been for her (good stress or bad). She is such a big girl in so many ways (nursery school and play dates) but when she returns to my arms it is a beautiful reminder
she is still such a baby. She shares my bed and nurses to sleep and several times throughout the night. She nurses when she wakes up in the morning as a ritual. What a beautiful way to start the day for both of us. Clearly we both love our nursing relationship though we hardly get support from family members. It's almost like a joke to some while others ask "if I plan to nurse her when she is in college" It is hard but I realize these are family members who unfortunately are strangers to the joy nursing brings and how it is truly a majical time for both
mother and child. I will nurse Alyssia untill she is ready to give it up... and not a moment before. Emotionally and nutritionally the benefits exceed any other.
