Alfred John, who was always known as "Jack" ABRAHALL,
was born in 1870 at Collingwood to Alfred Henry ABRAHALL and his
wife, Mary SHREENAN. "Jack" later married Jane Ann Vasey
HACKING at Fitzroy on December 21 1898. Jane was born in Fitzroy
in 1878 to George HACKING and Jessie Christie ROBINSON. Jane
was known as "Jeannie".
The HACKING family from Liverpool in England and then the ROBINSON
family were from Glasgow in Scotland.
Jack and Jeannie had four children: Alfred, Latham, Edna and Amelia.
Their first son, Alfred Hacking ABRAHALL was born at Fitzroy in
1899, he married at Caulfield in 1928 to Elsie Agnes FERGUSON. They
were divorced in 1936.
Then Alfred married Elfreda (Freda) Victoria MANNING
at South Yarra in July 1937.
The second child was Latham John ABRAHALL who was born in 1901 and
married Emily Ethel BROWN at Ashfield in NSW in 1925.
The first daughter was born in 1904 and was named Edna Grace ABRAHALL.
Edna married John Graham LOCKWOOD in 1929.
Then Amelia, who was born in 1904, married William Charles HARRIS in
1930.
Alfred John ABRAHALL born 21 August 1870, died 1st February 1951
at Caulfield.
Jane Ann Vasey HACKING born 8 July 1878, died 12 June 1961 at Armadale.
John's wife was Martha Ann ALLEN and she was born around 1818 in England. They had four (known) children after their marriage in 1840: Sarah Amelia, Michael John, Emma Louise and Alfred Henry.
Alfred Henry ABRAHALL - their last child - was born in 1842 at Birmingham, Warwickshire. He was baptized on 23 May 1842 at St Phillips. It is not known when he arrived in Australia, but one could assume it to be in the 1850's. He married Mary SHREENAN at St James Church in Melbourne on 15 April 1864. Mary was born in Belfast about 1844 to James SHREENAN and Mary HAMMON.
If anyone is searching the name SHREENAN - please note that this is often spelt as: SHEEHAN
Mary and Alfred ABRAHALL had five children: Richard who was born in 1865, Mary Jane in Dec 1868, then Alfred John born at Collingwood in 1870, in 1873 Martha Amelia and last was Sarah Louisa in 1876.
No further research has been done on this family, though it will be updated from time to time.
