The Sexual Abuser's Profile!
According to the American Humane Association, the natural parent
was the major abuser (42 percent of the cases), but other relatives
accounted for much of the sexual abuse (23 percent). Other close
people, such as adoptive and foster parents, as well as step-parents,
accounted for (35 percent) of sexual abuse cases. Despite newspaper
reports concerning sexual abuse in daycare centers and of children being
abused by strangers, these abusers make up a small number of cases. In
addition, the American Humane Association found that the abuser
was usually male (82.4 percent of the time).
Pedophilia
-
....a Pedophile is an adult who is sexually attracted to children. They
are different from family members who are the abusers in that pedophiles
would rather not keep their activity secret, but they must because of
the laws against it. A typical example of a pedophile is a man/woman
sexually abusing a child with whom he/she has formed a trusting
relationship by giving attention and gifts. The pedophile's victims are
often, but not always, lonely children with low self-esteem who are not
well-supervised by adults....
Fathers
-
....a comparison was done between 56 fathers who had abused their daughters
with 54 fathers who had not. Researchers found that the major difference
between the 2 groups was that the abusing fathers had helped very little
or not at all in taking care of their daughters during the first 3
years of their lives, while the non-abusing fathers had helped with
child care....
Apparently, helping care for a small child creates a greater father-
daughter bond between the two, and this leads the father to see the
child as his daughter, not as a sexual object. This supports the findings
that step-fathers have a higher rate of sexual abuse against their step-
daughters. Step-fathers come into the family later and do not have the
chance to help with the children in their early years.
Women
-
....whether women abuse children more or less is still unfounded. There
is a certain amount of sexual abuse that is still hidden, but rates for
women will continue to be much lower than rates for men. Differences in
attitudes and sexual behavior for women make them less likely to abuse
children....
Monday's Child was Cruelly Beat,
Tuesday's Child had Zero to Eat,
Wednesday's Child was Badly Burned,
Thursday's Child's Scars have Returned,
Friday's Child was Forced into Bed,
Saturday's Child has More Tears to Shed,
But the Child Abused on Sabbath Day has Nightmares which Simply won't Go Away!
