April Kay Mayor
April 23, 1982 - February 1, 1998

April was 15 years old and a Sophmore at Cleveland High School. Her interests were Choir, fundraising for Doernbecher Children's Hospital, and babysitting.

April was a loving young lady, brave way beyond her years, compassionate to others (especially if they were hurting in any way), she had a special connection with babies and she was so full of life. She was born with several serious heart defects that required many surgeries in her young life. It had been 4 years since the last surgery and she really was feeling and doing well.

Monday, January 26th started out to be a great day for April, she called her mom after school and was so excited about a song they sang in choir and that she would see her in a few hours to go out for dinner. Just before heading home, April's heart started racing and it sent her into cardiac arrest. She was with some friends her age that didn't know CPR but tried their best and called 911 right away. The paramedics arrived quickly but were unable to revive her heart for 20 more precious minutes. The next 5 days were spent waiting to see how much damage there was to her brain. On Friday, April woke up from the coma but she was no longer there. The look in her eyes did not reflect the life that was once there. That beautiful smile she always had even when in pain will linger in the hearts and minds of her family and friends forever. On Sunday February 1st April passed away in her mother's arms. She looked so peaceful and like a porcelain angel.
