December, 1998
Just as I'm about to be depressed because November is over and no more turkey, I remember that Christmas comes in December! I always make out in food and presents. The presents make December an even better month than November. The only bad thing is that Mommy usually makes an appointment at the groomers. Well, I thought that I was going to be off scott free this month. It got to be the 25th and still no trip to the groomers. I should have known better. That was definitely a downer because I hate going to the groomers. In fact, I'd prefer to roll around in something stinky. Because after having to go through the grooming ordeal, I always have to deal with Mommy and Daddy after being groomed. Don't get me wrong, I love my parents but after I've been groomed they just want to hold me and cuddle me and hang all over me. I like cuddling on my own terms, and there is such a thing as too much cuddling. OK, I'm off on a tangent now.
Christmas was fun too. I got to go on more car rides and visit family and get more Christmas dinner. I even got to visit my great-grandma in her new home. It was really nice and I like exploring. All of her neighbors thought I was cute too. I got a very cool rope bone and box of doggie treats from my pal Sebatian (thanks!!!). I love my new bone because me and Mommy play tug with it. I'm looking forward to next month... it's my birthday!!
November, 1998
November is ALWAYS a great month. Who doesn't love Thanksgiving? Mommy tries to be strict and won't give me much people food (although Daddy does a pretty good job of sneaking it to me) but on Thanksgiving, I get lots of turkey breast. I really wanted some turkey bones to chew on but Mommy said that was very bad. That they can splinter and cause terrible pain for me. I'm not sure if I TOTALLY buy that but at least I get turkey. We always go around to visit family too so that means fun car rides, playing with my chihuahua cousins and getting loads of attention. Again, November is a great month!
October, 1998
Boy, I don't know if I can even remember what happened in October. I've been trying to get Mommy to help me keep up my diary entries but she always says she's too busy. I mean I helped her fix up the den by painting it and assembling 2 (not just 1) desks and she can't even find time to help me update my diary. Well, at least she still takes me on walks. I wish she didn't have time to give me baths, but noooo... she finds time for that! OK, enough ranting.
September, 1998
This month was exhausting. Mommy decided to paint the kitchen/family room this month and actually tried to prevent me from helping! It was a really big job and almost everything had to be taken out of the kitchen and put in the other room. I had to supervise, of course. Mommy kept mumbling something about me being under foot but how else am I supposed to supervise?
When it was time to start the painting, Mommy put up the baby gates (no I'm not a baby) to keep me from getting into things. I could see that things were going slowly so I kept cheering her on by barking. When that didn't work, I tried to jump over the baby gate so I could give her a hand. Then my grandma came over to help Mommy paint. (It's a good thing too, because Mommy might still be at it!) It ended up taking 2 whole days to finish! I was so glad that it was over because I was tired of not getting any attention and being told to scootch! (But the kitchen does look ever so good now)
The other trauma that happened this month was my run in with a pile of ants. Yep, you read correctly, ants. I was outside minding my own business and sniffing for the perfect place to relieve myself when I came upon a group of ants. I didn't know what they were, Mommy told me later. When I was done sniffing them, I looked up at Mommy and she had the strangest expression on her face. Apparently, some of the ants had jumped on my face for a ride. It started to itch and before Mommy had a chance to help me, I rubbed my face on the ground to get those silly ants off of me. It didn't work as well as I'd hoped and I ended up scratching my eyeball instead.
Mommy got me in the house and used a flea comb to get those ants off of my face. When all of them were gone, Mommy finally noticed my eye was watering and I was having difficulty keeping it open all of the way. Mommy got me all excited by telling me that we were going on an adventure in the car. It turned out that she took me to an emergency Vet (did I mention this was a Sunday?) about 20 minutes away.
I really do hate going to the Vet's! This time, they put these drops in my eye to numb the eyeball. Then, a dye was squirted in my eye and rinsed off to see if there were any scratches. Of course, all they had to do was ask me, but they didn't. Sure enough, they found where I'd scratched my eye on the ground. Then I had to have the gel put on my eyeball for a whole week!
But wait! It's not over yet. I had an appointment with the groomers a few days after that. Of course, we all hate being left at the groomer's. Then I found out that I had an appointment to see the Vet again! I was just at the Vet's a couple of days before and didn't think I needed to be back there so soon. Well, my opinion obviously didn't carry much weight because I had to see the Vet. My eye was checked again (same procedure) to see if it was healing up. The good news was that it did. The bad news was that I apparently had an ear infection. When Mommy came to pick me up, they gave her a pile of medicine (which I'm still on by the way). There were antibiotic pills, prednisone to keep me from scratching, and ear goop. Also, don't forget the eye goop waiting for me at home! The only good news is that I get a little treat every time I have to go through the ordeal of medicine time.
I sure hope that next month is injury, bath and medicine-free!

This month I went over to my uncle Terry's house to help celebrate my grandpa's birthday! I love visiting family and friends. I especially like going to uncle Terry's because he always sneaks me a little bit of meat from dinner! (Thanks uncle Terry!) I also enjoyed seeing my grandpa too because I haven't seen him for the longest time.

The only really exciting thing that happened was that Mommy and Daddy had a deck party. It was really Daddy's baseball team coming over after a double header. I stayed home and helped Mommy get ready for our company. When everyone got there, I found out that my uncle had been hit in the head by a misdirected pitch! He even had to go to the hospital for a CAT scan. (Yuck! Hospital and cat all in one.) He's OK now though. It was fun meeting all those new people. There was even a boy named Matt who played with me most of the time. I wonder when they're coming over again?
June, 1998
Well, I can sum up this month in one word. HOT! I've been house-bound this month because it has been so hot and humid. I go outside to go to the bathroom and I'm panting in just a few seconds! Boy am I grateful for air conditioning.
I escaped from my bath all month! (not literally, just that Mommy didn't give me one. It's OK though because I'm naturally fragrant!) I've been battling with something that Mommy calls hot spots this month. I have to chew and bite that place under my front legs because it was itchy. Then it got raw and pussy so I had to keep trying to chew it because it was bothering me. Mommy was upset about it and finally sprayed something called Tea Tree Oil Spray on it. I didn't like it at all so I finally had to stop chewing there. Mommy told me that it is now cleared up and I have a clean bill of health!
I'm now anxiously awaiting the arrival of my cousins! Mommy said they are coming today (6/27) to stay for another week! I'm terribly excited and I'll write all about our adventures next month!

Guess what, guess what!!!! I had a very exciting week this month when my cousins Rico and Pollo came and stayed at our house for a whole week! I was beside myself I was so excited. Pollo and I played and played and played...at all hours. Rico tolerated us - he's an old man at 12 and isn't much for playing. To make things even better, Mommy was able to work at home for 3 days during that week! The only down side was having to share my Mommy's lap. When I was tired and wanted to curl up in Mommy's lap, Rico & Pollo wanted up too. It got somewhat crowded with all 3 of us up there. When they went home, I think I slept for almost 2 days straight!
(Mommy's perspective of that week: I went completely insane dealing with 3 dogs! Pollo had to be given pills twice daily and I had to walk 3 dogs, 3+ times a day! I could hardly keep all three dogs still long enough to get collars and harnesses on. One day, Rico managed to pull out of his harness and chase another dog while I was standing there with the 2 other dogs! I am totally not used to having 3 dogs wanting my attention all at the same time. I love Rico and Pollo but, boy, was I glad to see them go! They'll be back at my house for another week at the end of June - Piper doesn't know yet - can I take it again!?!)
The very last day of this month wasn't all that much fun. I gave Mommy quite a scare. I hadn't been feeling well all day and had be lethargic. I had even thrown up! Well, Mommy was taking me outside to do my business but I wanted none of it. We didn't get very far when I just lied down in the grass. Mommy agreed to take me home. When we got to our yard, I threw up again and then kind of collapsed. (Mommy described it like seeing an animal be tranquilized and sway on its feet before going down) Well, unfortunately, that meant going to the emergency Vet since it was a Sunday. I don't like going to the Vet's office where they poke and prod at you. Well, they couldn't find anything wrong with me - I was feeling better by the time we got there. So, guess what happened the next day! I had to go to my regular Vet! That meant more poking! AND I had to get shots on top of it all! Well, they gave me a clean bill of health but I tried to tell Mommy I was feeling better. Hopefully I won't have to go back there for a very long time!
April, 1998
What a great month this was. One night when Mommy came home from work she told me that I had a treat from some doggie friends that I haven't even met. Needless to say, just the mention of treats can really get me excited. It turned out that a very good Doggie Mommy bought her dogs a birthday cake from Three Dog Bakery. So, I had birthday cake from Hana and Ty! (If you're reading this guys, thanks!) It was yummy!!!!
Grandma Jeanne and Grandpa Doug came for a visit this month too. It was exciting to see them - like always - but it caused an uproar. Mommy was on the computer (what's new?) and she heard a noise and went running upstairs. That made me excited and curious so I followed her. She looked out the doors and didn't see anyone. Then she realized that the knock was on the door downstairs. (I figured that out but was too excited to share the information) She then ran downstairs and no one was there. Then the doorbell rang! Yep, we had company! I had fun running around after Mommy and then playing with Grandpa Doug. He lets me play rough!
Right now my cousins Rico & Pollo are visiting! I'll write the details about that next month - now back to fun!
March, 1998
Guess who I met this month? I met my Great-Grandma! Remember the bridal shower that was at the house last month (for me)? Well, that was for Mommy's cousin so my Great-Grandma came up to visit me and got a chance to go the wedding while she was here. Unfortunately I didn't spend too much time with her. We saw her at Grandma's house and that means I got to play with Pollo! I just couldn't sit still long enough to visit with her but I think she understood. For some reason, she seemed more content holding my human cousin, Adrianna. Go figure. I had loads of fun!!
Mommy wasn't feeling very well this month because her back was bothering her. I was there to cuddle with her and make her feel better. I got to do that a lot this month because Mommy stayed home to rest. I love having someone with me during the day. The only down side was that she didn't feel up to giving me a bath. I tried to assure her that I didn't feel slighted in the least and that I understood. (I mean, who likes baths anyway!?!) Well, she wouldn't hear of it and made an appointment at the groomers. No offense to the great staff over there but... I HATE IT! The up side to that is that I know I won't be going to the groomers next month!
February, 1998
I did lots of visiting this month. I got to see Mommy's friends Margaret and Kelly at my house and theirs. I love when people come to visit me. On Valentine's Day, I had 3 valentines! (Mommy, Margaret & Kelly) I felt very fortunate. They wouldn't let me have any of the chocolates because they said it could kill me! I think they just wanted to have more chocolates to themselves.
Then there was a whole party at my house just for me. There was food on the table and many presents. Mommy kept telling me the party was for Melissa who is getting married but I know that everything revolves around me. Everyone was petting and playing with me. I tried to look really cute while they were eating so someone would slip me some food. It didn't work because Mommy told everyone not to. She even kept an eye on me so I couldn't jump on the dining room chair to sample the food like I did at Christmas last year! I'm going to have to come up with some new tricks. Then I went out for a long walk and when I came back, everyone was gone! I'm not going to go for a walk at the next party because I want everyone to stay and pay me more attention!
January, 1998
Birthday months are always so much fun! I turned 2 years old on the 11th and had so much fun. Mommy surprised me by not doing anything on my birthday but waiting until the following weekend. I thought she may have forgotten but I should have known better. We didn't have a party like last year but I got my very own doggie birthday cake from Three Dog Bakery! I also got a brand new talking pig because I broke my other one. I get so excited when my stuffed animals talk back.
I also got to go visit my Grandma! She was very sick for a while and even had to stay in the hospital over night! Well, I was very worried about her when Mommy told me. I love my Grandma and wanted to comfort her. I told Mommy that I needed to go visit her right away! Well, we drove over there and I made her feel better just by my presence! That was good because I was so excited to be over there that I couldn't keep still. I was running around all over the house trying to sniff everything and to play with her beanie babies! Anyway, I'm very thankful that my Grandma is OK! All in all, I'd say it was a great month.
