La Maison Gautier
Better known as the Old Place, is located on the West Pascagoula River in
Gautier. With its grounds covered with trees full of Spanish
moss and the faint salty smell of the Gulf of Mexico, all one has to do is close his/her
eyes and be carried back to another time. A time with men in their white attire and ladies
in their long dresses and petticoats on the front porch drinking mint juleps and watching
the boats going up the Pascagoula River.

The
Mississippi Vietnam Memorial
"I am fighting to protect and maintain what I believe in and want
to live in a democratic society. If I am killed while carrying out this mission I want no
one to cry or mourn for me. I want people to hold their heads up high and be proud of me
for the job I did."
Unknown Vietnam Veteran

This memorial is located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. It not only
has the names of the Mississippians who died in the Vietnam War, but it also has the
pictures of the brave men (mere boys) who left their beloved Mississippi to fight and die
when asked by their country. To see their young faces, upon this black granite wall, so
full of life ... is a very moving experience.

Beauvoir
Beauvoir, the last home of the only Confederate President, Jefferson Davis.
For 2 days in October each year the hands of time are moved back and the grounds
become the battle field of the Blue and Gray. With this living history one can get a
look at the way our ancestors had to live and fight.

REMEMBER
As the orange sun slips into the ocean
I lie on the beach and remember.
Remember the loving hug of Mom.
Remember the whimpering of the tiny baby.
Remember the weathered face and hands of the old fisherman.
Remember the warm simle of the old lady.
Remember Dad saying "I love you".
Then I remember who put the love in the hug.
The lines in the old man's face.
The warmth in the smile.
The twinkle in the new born's eyses.
The love in Dad's voice.
Then I remember to say thank you
And ask God to please remember me.
