My Australian Heart

Australia Map

Today I have been bushwalking through 99 acres of natural bushland at Wireless Hill. This park is in suburbian Perth, Western Australia. It is springtime and the wild flowers are just lovely. Here, the views of the city and river are breathtaking.. (Sept. 1998)

The Kangaroo Paws, Spider Orchids, Donkey Orchids, Yellow Orchids, Cat Paws, are some of my favourite wild flowers that we saw today. The Kookaburras were laughing around us as we walked, there were also subtle sounds of the gentle breeze singing through the trees. It was a pleasure to smell the aroma of the flowers and gum trees. This is the Australia that I love so much.

The bird on this border is the Kookaburra isn't he just beautiful. He is my favourite Australian bird. I just love the haunting sound of his laugh. Hearing and seeing him today in his natural environment was a special treat. My other favourite Australian animal is the Koala.

I have created this page for my country that I love so much. I hope that you will visit this page and take a little bit of Australia with you.

I have done a page on Australia's EARLY HISTORY where you can read about the discovery and first settlement of our great land.

Faraway Land

I am an Australian woman
and of that I am so proud,
Come look at these wondrous hills
and you will hear me shout it out loud.

I will tell you of my ancestors so gallant
who sailed to this faraway land,
with so many hopes and joys,
they prayed to cup in their hand.

I wonder of their intimate thoughts
in seeing a southern sunrise,
Then of the jewelled star lit skies,
could this be her veil of disguise.

I am sure that they would have sighed
as they trembled and thought of their plight,
did there dreams turn to nightmares
as they spent their first night.

I can see faces all shiny with sweat
their callous hands falling like lead,
forever seeking to tame this great rugged gem
as over and over they buried their dead.

I yearn to give them my heartfelt thanks
for being so brave and facing the thunder,
how glad I am to be of their stout blood
so grateful to be born in a faraway land down under.

The Indigenous People of Australia

Goanna

My earliest ancestors came to Australia from Scotland in 1822. They were free settlers hoping for a better life for their families. They left all that was familar to them and worked hard to make a better future for their children and grandchildren.

I do not understand all the politics involved in land rights, but I do know that the Aboriginal people were here first. I hope that one day a solution will be found that is fair for ALL Australians no matter what their colour. I know it will come one day, I just hope I am here to see it.
