Noah Simpson Talburt
1895-1919
WWI Sergeant, Provisional Military Police
101st Regiment, 26th Division
Serial #A00924869, Service #1586609

Noah Simpson "Node" Talburt, was born May 10th, 1895 in Optimus, Stone County, Arkansas to Noah Baker Talburt and Maria Josephine Peacock Talburt. He was drafted into service during WWI and served as a Sergeant in the Provisional Military Police. When he left to go overseas he told his sister, Mayme (Mary Irene Talburt), that he was very much afraid to go, but to not tell "Papa". He died of pneumonia on Jan 9th, 1919 in France. Noah's older brother, Will (William Fishback Talburt), who was also serving in France, was only twenty miles from Noah when Noah died but didn't know of his brother's death until he heard from home. Neither brother knew the other was in France. Later, Will had his picture made beside Noah's grave in France. One year after Noah's death, his body was brought home and buried in the Optimus Cemetery at Optimus, Arkansas. A soldier remained with the casket until it was safely buried.
