Regions of the Sun Equipping and Serving (R.O.S.E.S.) is a voluntary cooperative of five regions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and the Southwest (8 areas in Texas and New Mexico) which comprise 20% of the total number of Disciples of Christ congregations, 19% of the DOC membership in the U.S. and Canada, 18% of all Basic Mission Finance and 22% of all Disciple outreach.
The partnership began in 1994 as a means of collaborating more faithfully and effectively in the shared ministries to which Christ calls us and to strengthen our relationships thereby giving more credible and joyful witness to our unity in Christ.
There is no central office nor is there a paid staff. Leadership is shared and host leaders generally convene an annual 5-day meeting of the regional and area pastoral staffs and moderators. During that meeting participants share what God is doing in their ministries and explore ways to do that collaboratively where appropriate.
In structure and in form it may be analogous to a local voluntary ministerial alliance which nurtures its member colleagues, awakens or encourages spiritual vitality, and provides new opportunities for shared ministries in the larger Body of Christ.
Among the new ministries proposed through the R.O.S.E.S. partnership is an International Affairs Seminar for senior high school youth which takes place in Washington, D.C. and at the United Nations building in New York. Next year this event will be open to older Disciple youth in all 5 regions and costs may be cut if increased participation allows for large group travel rates. Notice of details is forthcoming.
