Edward York "Pappy" Pettit, 77, a retired petroleum engineer, died Saturday at an Arlington hospital. Memorial service: 11 a.m. today at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Arlington. Burial: Rosemond Cemetery in Commerce. Edward Pettit was born March 1, 1919, in Alvord. He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Arlington. He was a veteran of World War II in the Army in the Engineers 2nd Battalion. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was retired from Petroleum and Mechanical Engineers, the Army, LTV Corporation and Gruy Consulting Corporation. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Pettit. Survivors: Wife, Eileen Pettit of Arlington; sons, Mike Pettit of Titusville, N.J., and Bob Pettit of San Antonio; daughters, Lyn Strandberg and Pat Pettit, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Mary Jane Schwartz of Pensacola, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
