Susan

I have the book The History of Versailles. I was just wondering: What ever happened to Versailles? My impression is that it desolved in 1983 and I was woundering why.

Thanks.

Diane

Dear Diane - As far as I know Versailles was just a general area at the bottom of the Versailles Knob a hill that stands out above other hills around. When I first moved out there in 1983 there was a little general store and the cross roads Concord Road and Versailles Road. There are farms scattered along both roads which go around "the Knob". No roads lead to the top of Versailles Knob, but legend has it that a flag pole on top of a de-flocked cedar tree stood for a long time. Adventurous souls climb it in the winter when the snakes and other creatures have gone subterranian (sp?). Dense undergrowth keeps most folks off "the Knob". John Nance who was part of the production of the History of Versailles lives right at the crossroads and the bottom of "the Knob." The Versailles area to my knowledge always got its mail from the Rockvale Post Office. Sorry I can't be much more help. Susan Daniel
