Anastasia, Absolutely

by Lois Lowry

Anastasia, Absolutely by Lois Lowry is a 1998-99 Hoosier Award Nominee for 6th through 8th grades.

This is a sequel to Anastasia Krupnik which I have also reviewed. Anastasia is now in 8th grade and just gotten a dog, which is her responsibility 100%. That means getting up early in the morning before school and walking him. The story evolves around the very first morning that she gets up to walk her dog. She soon discovers that instead of mailing her mother's drawings to her publisher, she has mailed her dog's droppings. Then the mail box is gone. Someone has discovered she has "tampered" with the U.S. mail! To make matters worse, she is taking a class on Values. She can't stop thinking about whether she should spend her life in prison by telling the authorities of her crime or to keep silent.

Rating:

This book is outstanding and a must for all kids who are learning "values" in life. The ending is surprising, but it teaches that the best decision is always to tell the truth! Anastasia, Absolutely is available through Amazon's secured order site!
