Anastasia Krupnik

by Lois Lowry

Anastasia is 10 years old. Her father is a professor and her mother is an artist. She has a fish named Frank. She has a crush on Washburn Cummings. She likes to record her thoughts in a green notebook.

She keeps a list of the things she hates and the things she loves in her green notebook. When her parents tell her they are going to have a baby, she puts “parents” and “babies” in her hate column. Things in her life don’t seem to be going exactly the way she thinks they should. There are problems at school and then there is Washburn Cummings, who doesn’t know she exists . . . until she changes her hair style, and that only causes more problems. Every time she doesn’t like the way something turns out, she adds it to her “hate” column and her “hates” grow much longer than her “loves.” You will see how Anastasia Krupnik, like most kids, bases conclusions on first impressions. Time seems to change the way we look at things. How will time change Anastasia’s hate list?

Rating: Four Stars

I think most kids will like this book, especially if your life is changing fast. You can purchase Anastasia Krupnik through Amazon's secured order site! The sequel to this story, Anastasia, Absolutely, is another book I recommend.
