The upper and lower components of the cradle are made from 4/4
birch with mortise and tenon joinery.
The base of the cradle is a glider with eight (8) ball bearing
joints. Yes, this cradle is a "glider" like a rocker.
While in the Navy, I noticed that all of the beds aboard ship
were laid out fore and aft - so you wouldn't get seasick
while sleeping - its the side to side motion that gets you
seasick. I noticed that rocking chairs don't rock side to
side - why do baby cradles??? That was my inspiration
for the design of this piece. It works very well.
The cradle it has been loaned out to four other babies before
returning so Rebekkah would have a place to sleep.
