CANDLES OF CONTENTMENT

A little house, adorned with love,
Where "candles of contentment" glow,
Holds pleasures that the very rich
Are seldom privileged to know!

A little house, whose roof protects
The happy dreams of childhood,
Is built on sturdy beams of faith
As well as on its floors of wood!

A humble home, where those within
Are not too proud to kneel and pray,
Contains a peace that overcomes
The hectic moments of each day!

A cottage where pink roses climb
Up trellises outside its walls,
Displays a beauty rivaling
Bouquets arrayed in marble halls!

A little house, whose memories
Stay sunshine bright in every room,
Keeps out the storms of wind and rain
And weeps away cobwebs of gloom!

How welcoming, as twilight falls,
The path up to that cottage door
Where dear hearts wait the safe return
Of loved ones coming home once more!

Till we ascend to mansions high,
(That "someone" paid for long ago),
Give thanks for each small house below
Where "candles of contentment" glow!
