DECEMBER 1998

Sammi and Katie with their Nana on Christmas Day.

As December arrived the kids were doing beautifully. They were just over 5 pounds,
and had moved from critical care to step-down. We were busy planning their homecoming,
painting and papering the nursery and stocking up on supplies.

Our hope of having them all home for Christmas was not to be, due to a series of minor
setbacks. Katie, the first to graduate each step of the way, developed pneumonia and a tiny
hernia of her own. Sammi caught a cold, of all things, just as she was getting ready to leave.

Thus it was Chris, who had for a long time lagged behind his sisters, who was the first to
come home. His stay was a bit short-lived, however, as he soon spent three days at Children's
Hospital for his first hernia surgery. But by the new year two of our babies were home - Chris
and Sammi, who arrived on December 29th.

Below is Chris the day he came home - December 15
