This semester, the report cards will be eliminated. Most of the students like this idea. Conferences are scheduled for the parents on November 15-16. Most of the students do NOT like this idea.
  A special meeting with the parents will be scheduled later in the year. The new report card will be discussed at that time.
  Karen Frederick does not like the idea of no report card for the first semester: "It is too confusing for one thing and if anyone's parents cannot make the conference date, they won't know how the kids are doing in school.
  Tom Kleine feels that when we got the first report card, it gave everyone an idea of which subject needed improvement.

  Evidently, there will be no student council at CK this year.
  The idea of a student council to represent the classes is practical; yet, last year, ineffective.
  First of all, it wasn't well organized. Instead of donating useful suggestions, the students gave their representatives only complaint after complaint.
  Suggestions received were overlooked or a compromise was reached.
  If the council system is ever attempted again, we hope they will overcome these shortcomings.

  This year Jr. High teachers got together and devised ?
  Subjects from art to boy's cooking...from Poetry to tropical fish, from Black History to Music Appreciation were offered to the students.
  Most students had at least three of the electives unless they had a full morning at art.
  A new feature will be added for the next quarter. Mrs. Ross will have a sewing class for some of the girls. We have two brand-new New Home sewing machines anonymously donated to our school.

  The children in Miss Meilinger's room took a large box and decorated it with magazine pictures of people caring for each other. They labeled it "Care Package".

  On Friday, October 22 Mrs. Weclew's fourth grade class took a trip through the sacristry. They say the are were the priest puts his vestments on; also were shown the place where the hosts were kept.

I thank you, Lord, for all the things I have received.

I thank you for the parents, relatives, and the friends you have given me.

I thank you for letting me be healthy.

I thank you, dear God, for creating me.

  In a recent interview with a few of the 6th graders, we received a few comments on their October 19 visit to the Performing Arts Center.
  Rochelle Mazza liked the velvet chairs and thought the building was lovely.
  Ann Hetzel thought Mr Schermerhorn was very up-to-date in his attire.
  Roberta Cleary admitted that she thought the conductor was very nice and extremely entertaining.
   Everyone agreed they disliked the bus ride the most of all.

  This year will be a special year for our choir. On December 9, 10, and 11, the choir will sing at the Performing Arts Center for a Christmas Program.
  On April 23, there will be a Youth Orchestra at Christ King.
    Looks like an exciting year. GOOD LUCK!

  On October 18, representatives from Pius, Divine Saviour-Holy Angels, Marquette and Dominican High Schools presented information about their schools to the 7th and 8th grade classes.
  Each school did a very good job selling their school, but the audience (yes, the Christ King students) was very disappointing. They laughed during the program. Some even were discourteous enough to make fun of the speaker with a slight lisp.
  It was also made clear that some of the students here were throwing balls of clay at each other. Mr Marx had to get on his hands and knees and scrape the grounded clay from the floor. It was evident that the students, let us say, some of the students, need a lesson in courtesy and respect for other people and someone else's property.

  Mr. Murphy, the director of the school music program, is having a demonstration on Tuesday, November 9. It will be given to the 4th and 5th graders.
  Mr. Murphy will demonstrate different musical instruments and give the students any information they would like concerning the band.
  On November 11, the parents of those children interested will be invited to a program.
  Mr. Murphy can supply both lessons and instruments for you.

  On October 16, Girl Scouts from all over the city had a GS day in the Bazaar at Mayfair.
  The crowds were entertained with the girls singing, dancing and playing guitars for them.
  The girls vied for prizes in many categories. We are proud to list some of the girls that won ribbons:

  Again this year, the SSND sponsored a holiday for everyone at Mequon.
  On the weekends of Oct. 30-31 and November 6-7, games, food, and surprises were available to one and all.
  The 8th grade art class under the supervision of Sr. Thomas made tissued bottles and candles that could be purchased at the fair.
  Hope everyone went and enjoyed himself.

  These are the days set aside for the parents and the teachers to confer about the students. Happy days...but only for some of the pupils!

  Thanksgiving Day..let us all give our thanks to the Lord.

  The Girl Scout style show was a huge success. Halloween decorations adorned the North Hall.
  The girls and visitors were entertained with a gorgeous display of dresses from Honey's.
  The tables were attractively decorated with a pumpkin. Sr. Thomas had her art classes make these pumpkins. Everyone agreed they were works of art.

  Some mothers generously donated their time and supervised the students at church during the month of October.
  Mothers or students led the congregation in saying the Rosary, our prayer to the mother of Christ.
  The attendance was very gratifying.

  Would you believe that it was a group of boys frying chicken, broiling steak, making pancakes, serving sloppy joes?????
  Every Friday tempting smells came from the cafeteria as Mr. Meyer hopefully instructs the boys in cooking.
  As a taster-tester, Mrs. Ross verifies that boys CAN cook.

  Mr. Landish expects the volleyball season to begin sometime in early November. the 6,7 and 8-grade girls will each have their own tryouts.

  In January there will be a contest of the cheerleaders. Girls from all schools will compete. Julie Krieg and Mary Young had to pick eight girls to represent Christ King. The ones chosen are:

Q. What do you think of the team?

A. The 7th and 8th grade players are pretty well balanced. 7th grade is adequate and the 8th is exceptionally good. We have one of the best defenses.

Q. What do you think the team could improve on?

A. They need more self confidence, especially our good quarterback, John Keller. Our pass blocking is really coming around.

  As you all know, Mr. Landish is our new athletic director here at CK school.

  His previous job was as a part-time coach at St. Bernard's.

  He is also varsity football coach, and plans to lead the 8th grade girls' volleyball team to victory this year.

  The team tied for 2nd place in their league.

  Father O'Malley is getting all the 4th grade boys together to form a basketball team.

  Their first practice was on Oct. 27. Father was very pleased with the turn-out.

  Just think of the superstars we'll have by the time they get to 8th grade!!

  Sunday, Oct. 31, was our Homecoming game..CK vs. St Bernard's. This was a grave moment as St. B's is the school our coach taught at last year.

  It was a cold night at Hart Park but that didn't stop the cheerleaders and the crowd from screaming encouragement to our team. It was a great turn-out.

  When the game ended, everyone cheered the boys even though CK lost, 16 - 6 for they played a marvelous game.

  During the half, Lori Reed in the 7th grade won the football. Her number was picked from the tickets sold at the school.

  After the game, students and parents attended a party at Christ King honoring the team and the coach.

  Mr. Landish was presented a gym bag; Mr. Morrow, assistant coach, was given a record;and footballs signed by the Packers were given to Bill Budzien, Dennis Murphy, and Larry Lopina.

  After the presentations, everyone sat down to enjoy sloppy joes and coke while the cheerleaders again entertained the crowd.

  It ended up a happy time.

  Just a cheer for our great cheerleaders who have done such a grand job flipping around at the football games.

  Let's all yell with the cheerleaders at the game!

  Bart Starr, Green Bay Packer's quarterback, worked out publicly recently for the first time since he was put on the shelf by two shoulder operations in August.

  Starr threw "medium range" 25-yard passes with team trainer, Dominic Gentile.

  When asked if Starr was throwing with any discomfort, Devine said, "Very little." Devine indicated that once Starr is cleared medically to begin playing, it will not take him long to fit into the line-up.

  "I want to emphasize, said coach Devine,"that the final decision as to

when Bart can play will be made by me. Bart is up on everything we are doing.

  Don't know how the rest of you feel, but I'll be glad to see Bart Starr back again.

  In another development, the Packers announced that a cardiac intensive care unit staffed by a doctor, an RN, and other specialist was at the County Stadium in Milwaukee for Monday night's game against the Detroit Lions which ended in a tie.

  This move prompted by the death last week of Chuck Hughes, who died of a heart attack during the game between the Lions and the Bears.

  Many people felt that Hughes might have been revived if cardiac equipment had been available immediately. Let's hope other such instances can be prevented in the future.

  The Los Angeles Rams announced that linebacker Don Parish will undergo surgery.

  Parish was just obtained from the St'. Louis Cardinals a few weeks ago. He is a second-year player from Stanford University.

  Let's all remember to say a prayer for Check Hughes and for his family.

  Mrs. Marx, wife of our beloved janitor, has recently undergone surgery.

  She was admitted to St. Anthony's Hospital in late October and thanks to our many prayers, she is reported as doing well.

BROKEN BONES:

  John Van Beckum, who broke his right arm (he's left-handed, wouldn't you know) playing football, just had his cast removed.

  Ann Frederick is still using crutches after her cast was removed. She broke her knee cap while riding a bike.

  Steve Peshman broke his ankle while riding his bike in the rain.

  Scorpio is the sign of those born from October 24 - November 22.

  Sr. Gail's class visited a school and acted as Santa Claus. Each child donated mittens to these under-privileged children.
