The Farmer-Cheatham Connection

Thomas Cheatham (1645 - 1726) is believed to be the immigrant ancestor. His will leaves property to his sons: William, Thomas, Jonathan, Marmaduke, Benjamin, and daughters: Mary, Susanna, Tabitha and grandson Thomas Cheatham (Henrico Co. records part 2, 1725-37, page 36) His son William, m. Obedience Branch, daughter of Christopher Branch III (1659 - 1726 (William Cheatham was the executor of his father's will dated May 2, 1720, probated Aug 1, 1726.

Thomas Cheatham first appeared in Henrico County records in 1679. (Henrico I, Stanard, page 47) Before that he lived in York Co., Va. "Margaret Cheatham, wife of Thomas, d Apr 6, 1670:. (Charles River Parish, register page 207) His second wife's name in unknown (Henrico (7) Stanard, page 67)

William Cheatham's will is dated Apr 27, 1751, probated Oct 1762 (Chesterfield Will Book 1, page 90) His sons were William, Thomas, and Christopher.

Christopher Cheatham's will is dated Sep 30, 1770, proved Dec court 1770. His heirs - wife Elizabeth and unborn child His sons, CHristopher, Thomas and William His daughters Mary (Polly) and Lucy who married Valentine Winfree II His brother Thomas was executor of his will. The will of Obedience Branch Cheatham (died 1774) widow of William Cheatham, was dated Feb 12, 1771, probated Aug 1774. (Chesterfield Will book 2, page 250) Her heirs were her five grandchildren: William, Christopher, Thomas, Mary and Lucy - orphans of her son Christopher Cheatham (1740 - 1770). Lucy CHeatham (164 -1836) m Valentine Winfree II Jan 3, 1783 Commissioners appointed by the county court to divide equally the estate of Christopher Cheatham, after the death of his widow Elizabeth , in 1783, returned thier report to the June court 1783. (CHesterfield Order Book 6, page 449) They gave to Lucy C Winfree, and her husband Valentine Winfree II, the following slaves: Tom, Davis, Robin, Fanny and Lucy and personal estate of 335 pounds, 12 shillings and 6 pence.

The will of Benjamin Cheatham, son of the immigrant Thomas Cheatham, is recorded in Chesterfield Will Book 1, page 550. His heirs are his sons: Stephen, RIchard and Joel. His wife, Grace Williams Cheatham. His daughter Phebe, the wife of 4 Elam Farmer. Sarah, wife 4 Lodowick Farmer. Angellicha, wife of Samuel Pitchford. Martha, wife of Jesse Witt. Mary Cheatham. Tabitha Cheatham.

The will of Stephen Cheatham, son of Benjamin Cheatham, is recorded in Chesterfield Co Will Book 3, page 404, May 1783. His heirs: his wife Elizabeth, daughter of William Akin, Daughters: Mary Pardue, Rany Bowman, Elizabeth Farmer, wife of 5 Hezekiah Farmer, Tabitha Cheatham, Prudence Cheatham. Sons: Ezekal Cheatham, Stephen Cheatham, William Cheatham, Josiah Cheatham, Joel Cheatham.
