Jacksonville Concert Story

My day began VERY early (as in 4am) on November 7th. Ok, let me digress, and start at the beginning :O)

I found out about this concert only 5 days before it happened, and I consider myself very blessed to have heard about it.  I received an email that told me that Cynthia was going to be in Jacksonville on November 7th; however, it said nothing about where the concert was going to be held.

At the same time I received this email, I also received the news that Cynthia's mother was at the point of her homegoing, and so she and her sister were with the rest of their family.  I began to think that the concert was most likely going to be postponed, but everyone I talked to who knew Cynthia said that she was going to be there.  I began to investigate and try to find out where the concert was going to be.  I finally found out that it was going to be at Southside Baptist, so my plans were set.

Cynthia's mother was called home on Wednesday, and the service was Friday, but she still planned to come to Florida.  So I got directions to the church, and set my alarm for 4am (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?) Sunday morning.

I set off for Jacksonville, listening to Cynthia's music all they way.  I arrived at 8:30, and found my way to the church.  I had been told that Cynthia would be singing at the 11am service.  When I walked into the church to see if she was there, I heard her singing!  She was singing in the early service, and she was singing my friend Judy's favorite song, "The Journey."  I slipped in the service, and listened to the message.  It was the Sunday for the Lord's Supper, and I was so blessed to hear Cynthia sing "In Rememberance" with Bruce Greer, her friend and accompianist.  She also sang "Kum ba ya" while the Lord's Supper was going on.

After the service, I went over to Cynthia and we hugged and talked, and I gave her some messages from friends, and what turned out to be her first Beanie Baby :O)  We talked in between people coming up to her, and then I helped her set up her merchandise table.  Then she and Bruce went to rest and get coffee before the next service, and I watched the table.

After the second service, Cynthia and Bruce left with the minister of music, and I did not see her again until later in the afternoon.  I was able to pick them up from the hotel, which was a treat for me.  Cynthia joked about the last time we were in a car together (read the Boca story if you are not laughing right now ) and we headed back to the church.
