     Francis Reynolds I was born in 1684 at Chichester MM, Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA; Quaker records show date of birth as 15-8mo-1684.¹ He married Elizabeth Acton, daughter of Benjamin Acton and Christianna (?), in 1712 at 29-10mo-1712, Salem MM, Salem Co., New Jersey, USA.^1,2 Francis Reynolds I died in 1760 at Chichester Twp., Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA.¹

     Elizabeth Acton was born 26 2mo 1690. Her married name was Reynolds.¹ She married Francis Reynolds I, son of Henry REYNOLDS and Prudence CLAYTON, in 1712 at 29-10mo-1712, Salem MM, Salem Co., New Jersey, USA.^1,2 Elizabeth Acton died before 1766.

     Henry REYNOLDS died 7 8mo 1724 at Chichester, Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA. He was born on 23 September 1655 at Chichester, Sussex, England.¹ He married Prudence CLAYTON, daughter of William CLAYTON III and Prudence LANCKFORD, in 1678, 10-11m-1678, at Burlington MM, New Jersey, USA.^2,3

     William REYNOLDS was born in 1608 at Kent, England.^3,2 He married Margaret EXTON, daughter of John EXTON and Alis FIVENS, on 6 March 1644 at St. Pancras Parish, Chichester, Sussex, England.⁴ William REYNOLDS died before 1670.² He According to the information from Sharon Lindley, William's 4 sons, William, Samuel, Thomas, & Robert, were all born in Chester, PA while the others were born in England. One would have to question the validity of this info as the children born in PA were in between the children born in England. on 9 October 1998.²

     Margaret EXTON was baptized on 5 February 1625 at St Pancras Parish, Sussex, England.¹ As of 6 March 1644,her married name was REYNOLDS. She married William REYNOLDS, son of Richard REYNOLDS and Ann Harrison, on 6 March 1644 at St. Pancras Parish, Chichester, Sussex, England.² Margaret EXTON died in 1687.

     William CLAYTON III and Prudence LANCKFORD were early adherents to the teachings of George Fox and both became members of the Society of Friends.¹ William CLAYTON III was born on 9 February 1630/31 at Boxgrove, Sussex, England.² He was baptized on 9 December 1632 at Boxgrove Parish, Sussex, England.¹ Hewas, on the in 1653, committed to jail in Sussex and fined 6 pounds for meeting with other Quakers. Having refused to pay his fines, William was jailed for six months in the House of Correction in the town of Arundel. at recorded date was 07-12mo-1653.¹ He married Prudence LANCKFORD, daughter of William LANCKFORD, on 7 November 1653 at St. Pancras Parish, Chichester, Sussex, England; Teresa Millers Web Page lists their marriage as 07 January 1651/2.^3,1 William CLAYTON III immigrated circa 1677 to America with his family but the exact date of their arrival is uncertain. There was a William Clayton who arrived in 1677 in New Jersey on the ship "Kent" reportedly from London in the company of certain commissioners sent by the proprietors of New Jersey to purchase land from the Indians. This may have been another William Clayton who has been mistaken for our William Clayton by Hepburn and others over the years. On 6th day 8th month 1678, William Clayton Sr., William Clayton Jr. and Purdence Clayton were witnesses to the first marriage recorded at Burlington Monthly Meeting, Society of Friends, West Jersey. In March 1679, William Claton purchased the share of Hans Oelson, one of the original grantees of Marcus Hook and settled at that place. Their daughter, Honour Clayton, married the 6th month, 1679, at "Markers Hook" under the care oif Burlington Monthly Meeting.

The family moved within the next decade to Chester Co., PA where William's estate was administered 1st day, 8th month, 1689.¹ He died in 1689 at Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA.²

     Joan SMITH married William CLAYTON II, son of William Clayton I and Elizabeth (?), on 30 October 1631 at Boxgrove Parish, Sussex, England.^1,2 As of 30 October 1631,her married name was CLAYTON. Joan SMITH was buried on 27 April 1644 at Boxgrove Parish, Sussex, England.²

     William Clayton I The lineage from this William on back is not proven according to Cheska Wheatley.¹ He married Elizabeth (?). William Clayton I was born in 1588. He I had shown William's father as Thomas Clayton, #2390 and his mother as Elizabeth Booker, #2391. Based on information from Cheska Wheatley, William's parents have not been proven anywhere and have been confused with another William Clayton. I have deleted the relationship between William and Thomas & Elizabeth until it can be proven. on 17 February 2000.

     Elizabeth (?) married William Clayton I. Her married name was Clayton.

     Thomas CLAYTON (an unknown value). He died in 1631.

     John CLAYTON was born in 1525.

     Thomas CLAYTON was born in 1500. He died in 1557.
