Our Story of Loss ~
After only 3 months into our marriage we found out we were pregnant. I was jumping for joy whereas Chris was somewhat reserved. He knew he would be leaving for a six month deployment & did not want to leave me alone, pregnant in a strange town. He was also concerned about our financial stability...seeing that we had been married only a short period of time. I, on the other hand was only worried for the well-being of the baby. I had undergone cryosurgery one month before finding out our wonderful news. We had been advised to prevent pregnancy because of the risks involved while carrying a child with a weak cervix (due to the surgery). Regardless of how, what,
when, or why we became pregnant at that time...we were pregnant now & we could only pray for a healthy baby. We found out the news a few days after Thanksgiving of '94 & Chris was set to deploy the day after Christmas. By the first week in December I noticed some spotting. We called the hospital to see if we could seen by our physican. We were told we could not have any type of examination until we attended a pregnancy class. The next available class was not until the following week. We waited, we went, we finally got our exam. An ultrasound was performed & there we saw
not one, but two babies. What a wonderful surprise! Everything seemed to be fine. Later that evening we received a call from the doctor. He had taken another look at the ultrasound & determined we were going to miscarry. The news hit us hard. We were told that we should miscarry on our own within a couple of days. Unfortunatately, that never happened and a D&C was performed.We always held on to the hope that someday we would be able to get pregnant again. It has now been almost 3 1/2 years & still no luck. "Infertility" is determined once a couple has not become pregnant or sustained pregnancy within one year of unprotected sex (or within 6 months if over age 35). We are finally ready to hop on this rollercoaster ride again. Our treatment starts this month. All we can do is continue with our lives and pray God's will be done.
