Because Greene County is so small it has no major cities, only a couple

Leakesville, Mississippi
Leakesville was settled as early as 1812 and had a sawmill in operation. It was named for Governor Walter Leake and was incorporated around 1904.
Leakesville, Mississippi, with a population of 1,129 is the largest community
in Greene County. Leakesville is also the county seat. Leakesville is home
to state's largest shrub tree. Fred Height, Jr., a Republican,is the current
mayor of Leakesville. Leakesville is home to a new
Peavey Plant. Leakesville is also home to South Mississippi Correctional Institutue.
Leakesville was named after the third Governor of Mississippi, Walter Leake.
Walter "Vinegar Bend" Mizell graduated from Leakesville High School in the early 1950's.

McLain, Mississippi
McLain was named after a pioneer settler with the last name McLain. It was formerly called Dantzler.
McLain, Mississippi with a population of 550, is located in the Southwest
region of Greene County. McLain is the proud home of
Ruthie Bolton-Holifield.
Ruthie is an 1996 Olympic Gold medalists. Tommy Roberts is the current mayor of
McLain.

Neely, Mississippi
First called Washington, Neely was settled as early as the 1840's. The name of the community was changed in 1907 for the first postmaster, Charley J. Neely.
Neely currently has a sparse population of around 200. Neely is located near the center of Greene County. Neely is currently only a rural community. The town itself declined in population as the sawmills there closed around the 1920's.

State Line, Mississippi
State Line was found in the 1850's. It was once home to the largest turpentine still in Greene County.
State Line with a population of 394, is located in the Northeastern region of
Greene County. It is located, as its name states, at the state line of
Alabama and Mississippi. State Line also border two different counties, that
of Greene and Wayne Counties. State Line is home to
Aubrey Lucas.
Lucas is the former President of the University of Southern Mississippi.
