Husband's Notes
[UL:FROM THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY HISTORY:UL] HAVENS, THOMAS was born in Sussex Co., N.J., son of Wm. and Elizabeth (Maxey) Havens. He was the oldest son of a family eight children, moving to near Columbus, Ohio in 1819. In 1848 he came to Ill. and settled along the North side of the Old National Trail east of Greenup, Ill. He married Fannie (Daugerty) Wetherholt. She had married Elisha Wetherholt previously and had children namely: John, George, Eli, Sarah, Lydia and Amanda. They came to Greenup with their mother. The family farmed for a living. Thomas and Fannie had six children namely: Joseph, Lewis, Elisha, James, Charlotte Jane and Stewert. Thomas died near Greenup, June 17, 1882, and Fannie died Dec 21, 1887 and are both buried in the Greenup Cemetary. Thomas was married to Louisa Baughman first. He wanted to head west to I ll but Louisa didn't. Fanny who was married to Mr. Wetherholt wanted to head west but wetherholt didn't. Thomas traded wives and each wife took with them their children. The marriage of Thomas and Fanny did not take place till some of their children were already in school. No one knows if Thomas had children by Louisa before the trade. Marriage certificate burned in courthouse fire.

[UL: FROM THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY HISTOR:UL]Y HAVENS, LEWIS was son of Thomas and Fannie Havens born 28th of Aug., 1843. He was raised on a farm east of Greenup, Ill. He served in the civil war, entering when he was 19 years old. He enrolled as Corporal Co. B. 123 Regt. Ill. Vol. Inf. and served his country until the close of the war. On Oct 8, 1862 he was wounded at Chaplin Hills in the calf of the leg returning to duty July 1, 1863. Again on April 2, 1865 he was wounded in the left shoulder but was able to return to the front. He was discharged May15, 1865. On March 13, 1870 he was united in marriage to Mary Vesta Wade, daughter of William and Elizabeth Wade. They had 5 children viz: Emmett born Jan 1, 1871, Jeanette born Dec 3, 1873, Florence born in 1877, Elisha born May 12, 1880 and Eli. Lewis lived near Greenup all his life and farmed until his health failed. His wife Mary Vesta, died May 25, 1920. Soon afterward he went to Joliet, Ill. and stayed in the Soldiers Home until he was remarried on Dec 26, 1923 to Rosa Trusler. They lived in Rockville, Ind. her former home, until his death, Sept 24, 1929. He was returned to Greenup, Ill.and buried here.
