Husband's Notes[UL: FROM THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY HISTOR:UL]Y HAVENS, LEWIS was son of Thomas and Fannie Havens born 28th of Aug., 1843. He was raised on a farm east of Greenup, Ill. He served in the civil war, entering when he was 19 years old. He enrolled as Corporal Co. B. 123 Regt. Ill. Vol. Inf. and served his country until the close of the war. On Oct 8, 1862 he was wounded at Chaplin Hills in the calf of the leg returning to duty July 1, 1863. Again on April 2, 1865 he was wounded in the left shoulder but was able to return to the front. He was discharged May15, 1865. On March 13, 1870 he was united in marriage to Mary Vesta Wade, daughter of William and Elizabeth Wade. They had 5 children viz: Emmett born Jan 1, 1871, Jeanette born Dec 3, 1873, Florence born in 1877, Elisha born May 12, 1880 and Eli. Lewis lived near Greenup all his life and farmed until his health failed. His wife Mary Vesta, died May 25, 1920. Soon afterward he went to Joliet, Ill. and stayed in the Soldiers Home until he was remarried on Dec 26, 1923 to Rosa Trusler. They lived in Rockville, Ind. her former home, until his death, Sept 24, 1929. He was returned to Greenup, Ill.and buried here.![]()
