7. Matthew⁴ Rippey (Joseph³, Matthew², Joseph¹) was born on 20 Feb 1803 at Warren, Ohio. He married Jane P. Montgomery on 3 Aug 1826 at Wayne, Indiana.

Children of Matthew⁴ Rippey and Jane P. Montgomery were:

• i. Robert M.⁵; born 17 Aug 1828 at Indiana; died 30 Oct 1863 at age 35; buried 1863.

  BIRTH:DEATH:MILITARY:Book; Representative Men of Indiana; Page 54; "Robert M., born August 17, 1828, entered the late war as captain of Copmany I, 10th Iowa Infantry, and was in active service about two years, when, on October 30, 1863, he died from a disease contracted while in the service. Among the engagements in which he participated were those of Iuka and Parker's Cross Roads. He procured as part of the trophy of these battles a portion of General Beauregard's captured flag-staff, from which he manufacted a cane, that is now in the possession of his father, by whom it is greatly prized."
