May 21, 1993 Jeff Richardson was killed in the line of duty in an automobile accident. Jeff was responding to assist a Sharp County Deputy when his partol car struck another vehicle head on. The accident occured just South of Evening Shade.
Jeff had been a Firefighter I and an Inspector with the Cave City Fire Department for three years. He was also a Sargent with the Cave City Police Department. Jeff was liked by everyone. He was a good officer and a good friend.
Funeral services were held at the Highland High School Gymnasium. Approximately 150 emergency vehicles and uniformed officers from around the state formed a memorial drive from the Cave City Police Department to the funeral site. The drive was driven its entirety (24 miles) with emergency lights flashing, and black ribbons tied to antennas paying tribute to our fallen friend. The Cave City Fire Department attended as honorary pallbearers.
In memory of Jeff the Cave City Fire Department retired Jeff's helmet and radio number,Cave City 202. There is also a memorial location at the Cave City Fire Department and the Cave City Police Department.
Jeff was survived by his wife, Linda, son Craig, daughter Leah, and his parents, Jack and Tommie Richardson.
