US and USSR agree on "hot line" from the Whitehouse to the Kremlin.

Nuclear testing ban is signed by US, USSR, and Great britian.

200,000 "Freedom Marchers" Blacks and Whites, descend on Washington to demonstrate.

Adenauer resigns as W. Germany Chancellor and is succeeded by Ludwig Erhard.

Buddhist-led military coup overthrows government of S. Vietnam; US sends financial and economic aid.

Macmillam resigns as Brit. Prime Minister and is succeeded by Sir Alec Douglas-Home.

President John F. Kennedy is assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas, Texas
on Nov. 22; Lyndon B. Johnson sworn in as president.

Kenya becomes independent republic within Commonwealth.
