Making Personal Care Products

Do you know how much money you could save if you knew how to make some of your own personal care products? It really is alot easier than you would think. Here are some products to get yourself started.

Dry Skin Treatment

Here's a way to create an oatmeal bath without the usual mess. Pour abut 1 cup of oatmeal into a cheesecloth or piece of netting and tie or rubber band the top. Hang this under the faucet as the bath water is running. You can then remove it from the faucet and use it as a soothing sponge to soften and moisturize skin with no messy cleanup.

Dry Hair Restorer

An inexpensive way to restore the luster and shine to dry hair. Choose a light oil, such as corn or sunflower oil. If your hair is especially dry and damaged, you can use olive oil, but it is more difficult to rinse out. Heat the oil to lukewarm and apply to hair with the palm of your hand. Be sure to coat the entire shaft. Cover your hair with a plastic bag and leave on as long as you can, best if for overnight. Shampoo hair thoroughly with your regular shampoo. Two latherings are usually neccessary. Skip the conditoner.

Face Freshener

To freshen your face during the day, use witch hazel, available in drugstores. Carry a small bottle when traveling or keep one in your desk with some cotton balls. Dampen the cotton ball with the witch hazel and blot your face and neck. It refreshes you and will not hurt your makeup as long as the cotton is just damp and you don't rub.

Removing Eye Makeup

Instead of buying expensive eye makeup remover lotions and pads, try this: Use mineral oil, baby oil or petrolleum jelly to remove mascara and liners. Not only do they remove the eye makeup quickly, they are also great moisturizers.

Remove Green Hair after Swimming

Dissolve 10 asprin in 1 cup of warm water and pour over hair. Work this through the strands well. Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse in cool water.

Clean Combs & Brushes

Soak combs and brushes for a few minutes in the sink with a tablespoon of baking soda and a drop or two of household bleach. Swish and rinse.

Cleaning Makeup Brushes

It's important to clean makeup brushes frequently. Wash them in a mild soap solution or add a little shampoo to warm water and swish them in it. Add a bit of hair conditioner to the final rinse and they will always stay soft.
