In Memoriam of Eli Kennedy
By F. M. Donaldson
The subject of this sketch was born in Tattnall County on May 12, 1837. He was
a son of the late Jimmerson and Nicy Kennedy, moved to Bulloch County in 1866,
and was married to Miss Elizabeth Tillman, of this county, in the year of 1880.
From this union there were born twelve children, eleven of which are still living
as follows: H. B., John E., J. B., W. H., H. A., E. A: these are the boys. The
girls are: Mrs. J. A. Brewton, Mrs. B. C. Brannen, Mrs. W. B. Bland, Mrs. C.
C. Akins and Mrs W. H. Anderson. One died at the age of two years. He enlisted
in the war between the states in 1862, and remained in the service until the
close in 1886. He was a brave and faithful soldier, as attested by his comrades
who are still living. He joined the Primitive Baptist Church in the year 1888
and was clerk of that church until a few years before he died. He was disabled
by paralysis which resulted in his death Feb. 14. 1912. He was a good and faithful
member, a good citizen and a good husband and faithful and loving father. He
was married the second time in August 27, 1901 to Mary J. Holland who is still
living. The children desire to express their love and admiration to their stepmother
for her faithful and tender care bestowed by her upon their father in his last
days.
The writer was acquainted with this man for may years, and knew him to be a
man loved and respected by all who knew him. He was elected a member for years
to the office of tax collector of this county, which he filled with honor and
credit. We mourn the loss of this good man; may God bless his children and grandchildren
that he has left behind. May they ever respect, honor and cherish the good name
of their honored father, who has gone on before. Written by one who loved him.
