Occasionally a pastor may hear a church member complain about Holy Communion being offered too often. Others may intentionally stay away on the Sundays when the sacrament is served, or someone may say, "I don't feel that I am worthy of taking Communion, so I just don't partake of it at all."
Let's consider that last statement. The truth of the matter is that if a person has to be totally worthy to receive the sacrament, no one could ever take it. Perhaps we need to remember the 12 men to whom it was first offered. Judas betrayed Christ. Peter was about to deny Christ. Others had been arguing as to which of them was the greatest. All of them were shortly to flee before getting arrested for being with Jesus. Some friends, right? Yet how do they differ from us?
The important thing is that Christ still loved them and had great hopes for them. Surely he has great hopes for us as well. Let's honor our Lord's invitation to remember him.
