I am in the middle of a problem with overnights with my kids due to a claim made to DSS by
my sons pchycologist on a wild story reported by him two years ago. originally I was a
house husband who was home with my kids 24/7 for 4 1/2 years. Wasn't it a surprise to me
when my wife after commiting adutrey ended up with my kids. I was put out of the house on
a trumped up restraining order that the officers present that evening even said was phoney
but they had to comply with due to state law and have been jerked around ever since. I
think that it's time we had an equal rights movement for men, especially those facing
these kinds of attacks. It would be nice if we could get some kind of legal support to
help us remedy these antiquated divorce laws as there are many fathers going through the
same indifferance and abuse from state agencies and court systems. Lets organise and do
something to get the ball rolling as my kids are very important to me!

Really enjoyed the site. It's great that dads have a place like this to go. I too am a
divorced dad with 3 boys, 12,8 and 5. But I've been one of the lucky ones who ended up
having the Ex turn out to be a good friend. Although we do argue from time to tim , I
could never imagine spending most of my time in court. I truely believe that both parents
need to keep their differences away from the kids and work on creating a relaxed
enviroment for the kids. Lord knows they're having a tough enough time dealing w th mom
and dad not living together! Parent's may think they have hurt feelings, but multiply that
by 100 and that is what the kids are feeling. I guess it just comes down to putting away
the foolish pride and pettie arguments. The marriage is over, deal w th it and move on,
but keep the one very important promise.... Always love the children.

financially when their wife suddenly surprises their spouse with a legal separation
agreement. I have signed such an agreement but now wish that I had sought legal counseling
before I did. The reason, at the time, was mainly because of my financial situation at the

wonderful website..cant wait to read it all Im a divorced dad of 2 (11 yr old girl/8 yr
old boy) my ex took my kids to KY and I couldnt stop her she came back 1 yr later and gave
me the kids she wanted a break...meanwhile she may snatch them away any minute and I cant
get a lawyer thats wants to help me much, they are not agressive enough for me down here
in Florida. Any suggestions...i love my kids and yet hate to drag them thru a custody
battle if she decides to take them again...since she legally is the custodial parent...and
all this time i have still been paying her child support...call me stupid eh? been wanting
to write a self-help book for newly divorced dads. I have alot of material and experience
these last 5 yrs but dont know how to start...any suggestions? Dont have a computer of my

Thanks for letting me comment, I am a divorced dad, 3yrs and running, I have one 7 year
old son, I was granted joint legal custody, presently I am lucky to get to see my son
twice a month, I live 5 miles from my ex, she won't let me talk to him on the phone, and
never notifies me of an of his activities so that I may see him at his karate lessons,
school activities, etc. I am pursuing custody of him, based on her past criminal record a
year ago, 7 felony drug and weapons related charges, just to name a few. I have been
extremely frus rated with the "system". I think I have a good lawyer though. The
psycotherapist I've taken him to because of his trauma seeing his mother destroy his
belongings, house and being busted has identified some interesting facts, one of which, my
son's desir s to live with me and not with his mother, he attempts to minimize her, and
never brought her up once during the time whe was incarcerated, he never wanted to go back
to her. she demanded him back after being released from the halfway house, and threaten d
my life if I didn't comply, I gave him back, since then I rarely get to see him, I have a
court trial date very soon, I pray that it works for my son's best interest and my own.

Great sight- I have always felt that Fathers get the short end of the legal stick in
divorce. Actually the kids get none of the stick. I was very fortunate in my divorce and
have felt like I would like to share my story with others in order to help them a d the

I am a single-custodial father and have been a single dad for 18 months. I found your
sight to be very meaningful to me. I do realize that I am one of the fortunate fathers who
have not "lost" their children due to the divorce. I have alot of empathy for
fathers who can't see their children at will and have learned alot about how not to be
with visitation between my children and their mother. By the way, my children are 3(girl)

Actually, I'd like to get some help finding a divorced dad's support group in Tampa, Fl.
where I live so if anyone's got ideas let me know. After 20 years my wife just basically
said "I'm not happy, and you have to leave and take care of me financially the rest
of my life." That's Florida law for a wife who refused to work becasue she prefers to
play tennis everyday while I work. Of course, she keeps the three boys too. Says I
"What did I do wrong....I mean there was no adultry or nothing" She responds
"You don't give me enough attention." I've been married 20 years and she refused
to work for 20 of those years so she could raise our three sons and go to aerobicsa and
play tennis. So it's my responsibility to keep the family finacially solvent. Which I do,
but to stay in the race you've got to run at aminimu speed, otherwise you're out of the
game and there's no job or income and then it's *my* fault if the finances fall apart,
because she was too busy to work. I coached each one of my sons in Little League. The
oldest one twice. But say's she "You're a shit father because you don't give your
family enough time." What the h**l! I ask my sons 16, 15, and 12, "Did I give
you enough time?" "Yes, dad" But their opinion doesn't matter to the
omniscinet mom. Hollywood, really has it all wrong. There are plenty of men out there who
do their best and end up getting the raw deal from a wife who has lost touch with reality
-- but the law is on her side.

Am really tounched by your story. I left my husband when my sons where you son's age and
my divorse was later final when I was 6 months pregnant with my 3rd son. My X was a
playboy, using and dealing drugs, always in and out of prison, so I really did ot have a
choice but to get out or it would mess up my life and my sons. I never talked to them
about the situation and I never really thought about how they felt, only how I felt. So I
am sorry for that. Thank God we are fine now and survived it after all ;-)

Great place!, Good layout, nice to hear from the women as well. I am a divorced father of
two. Luckily, and only after 3 years of separation, my ex and I were able to put the
concerns of our children first. THEY had a desire to live with both of us, so they do! I
built a home only 1 1/2 miles from their mother and they live alternate weeks with each of
us. They are very happy, well adjusted, and have the support, balance and harmony of both
their parents. I know my situation may be different than alo of others. But I honestly
feel that the 3 year cooling off period, and dealing with a rational person, allowed us to
still remain "friends". The communication lines are pretty good, sometimes
things are forgotten and an eyebrow is raised. Please remem er, no matter what the
atmosphere is between you and your ex, do not communicate things between yourselves
through your children! It is not their responsibility, it is yours.

I am so glad to see something like this on the web. I'm a divorced parent of two children
and have remarried to a man who also has a child. Right now we are going thru a lot with
all the "resentments" from the other parents. It is soooo very hard on th
children. My two never see their fathers due to the fact that these two men have
disappeared! My husband is trying to get his visitation with his daughter but his ex holds
a very deep resentment for something that happened 8 years ago. It is horrible or the

After 25 yrs. of what I thought was a good relationship and 3-children, my wife decided
that she didn't want to be married anymore - She wanted to 'Find Herself'. After being
devasted by this, I then found that I had NO rights and she, as the 'loving mot er?', has
all the legal rights. Even though I did most of the cooking, cleaning, child care, school
activities, home maintenance, income providing (she said I made it easy for her to find a
life outside of the marriage) NY State considered me as 'pond scu ' and her a 'Queen'.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!

Hi there.. Nope... i'm not a divorced dad. Found your site through someone's guestbook
and glad I did. This is such a Great site... Very informative. I can see lots of hard work
went into this site :)! My parents were div rced when I was 8 years old.. me and my 2
sisters grew up with our dad taking care of us. I have a lot of respect for my dad for
taking care of 3 kids. Divorces are rough... but tends to make us stronger people :)! I
will return to your page..!

I've found your pages of great interest, but I wish I were one to gain comfort from the
sharing of an experience. As you will see on my homepage, along with the alimony, child
support and inability to see my son, I must live with the guilt that I can do l ttle to
protect my son from a sexually abusive and manipulative pedophile; his mother. I hope to
overcome the guilt someday and to welcome him into my life if and when he choses to
return. In the meantime, I vent through my homepage and continue to visit his and other
related sites hoping for solace and possibly helpful advise.

I am going through a divorce at this time. The marriage has been shot for over three
years. We had a lot of counseling, but I really feel the my soon to be ex-wife found a
counselor that encouraged her to follow through and "be happy". What I am really
upset about is the attitide she has. She is more concerned about herself than the two kids
and I. She originally left me with the kids and returned when the court awarded her the
house back and primary custody of the kids. I hate it. Problem is, I would take her back
for the kids sake, which I know could be a disaster down the road. Thanks. This sight has
given me some great enouragement and hope. God bless.

I am 38 years old, have been married for 10+ years, and have two sons, ages 5 & 1 1/2.
My wife and I have had marital difficulties for 7+ years since our infertility problems in
1990. We have been to over 10 counselors over the years both individually and jointly. We
separated for three months in 1994 and for 7 months recently from 11/96-6/97. I moved back
home on June 13th into the guest room(where I still sleep)when my wife broke a bone in her
hand and was unable to do her share of the childcare. We have always had a 50/50
relationship as fas as caring for the children as I have a lot of flexibility with my work
schedule that allows me to be fully involved with my children during work hours as well as
weekends & evenings. My wife feels we can create a new relationship that would be
satisfying for both of us, but I don't agree so we are stuck! Her anger is now being
displayed in front of the children and she has health problems that she blames entirely on
this situation which is "all my fault." I am struggl ng desperately with the
hopelessness of this situation as I don't want to be divorced(because of the children),
but I also dread the thought of staying in a marriage with no intimacy, physical or sexual
attraction, or mutual respect. HELP! Thanks,Ed

While it is heartening to read that there are many others in similar situations, I don't
find a resolution here. If anything, my resolve is stronger to bring an end to all of thsi
suffereing by means other than within the legal system. I read "Ode to Dads with a
tear in my eye. A copy of this should be sent to every judge that sits in a divorce and/or
custody hearing. Someone just might finally realize that a lopsided system is the best way
to destroy our future generations.

When I think of my kids and I'm all alone in my trailer I often cry because I love them so
much. It has been almost 2 years since the divorce and it still is not easy saying goodbye
to them. I live for the time that I spend with them. Those times are very special to me as
they are with all dads who love their kids. I never really understood what love was untill
I had my two little ones. the things that they do and say sometimes make you laugh and
make you cry. kids do and say the darndest things

Another good web reference point for divorced. I am a custodial dad (as well as being a
non custodial dad) and posted to that forum last night but it does not appear. I also sent
another e mail to you on the subject of handling guilt but it was returned. I have resent:
it is about realsitic gulilt, unrealsitc guilt and forgiving. I think you would be
