Last Will and Testament of Johann Casper Zinck, dated 23 Feb 1783 Translation of the original high German by Mrs. Erika Eirisch. In the name of the Truine God, Amen. On the 23rd day of the month of February in the year of Christ 1783 and in the 23rd year of the reign of our gracious king, George the 3rd of Great Britain, I, Caspar Zinck, settled in Lunenburg County in the Province of Nova Scotia, am, thanks to the Lord, in good mental health and am very well aware of my life's mortality and transitoriness, and that all mankind is bound to die one day. Therefore I hereby declare my last will and testament in the following manner: Mainly and firstly, I give my soul into the hands of the great Lord, who gave it to me, and my body to the earth, so that it may be buried with honour by arrangement of my Executor and doubtlessly rise again on the great Day of Resurrection by the omnipotence of the Lord. But concerning my worldly goods, with which the Lord had blessed me in this transitoriness I hereby declare as follows: I explicitly direct, that after my death my estate in movable and immovable goods will go to my son Peter Zinck, his descendants and their descendants, such as my three 30-acre lots #1, 2 and 4 with the buildings in Rose Bay also all livestock, kitchen utensils, field equipment, clothing, fruit supply, and my other belongings with the exception of my cash money. My dear wife Maria Barbara should be taken care of by my son Peter Zinck for the rest of her life in sickness and in health. In the event that she wishes to stay by herself, he would be obligated to provide her with 12 bushels of fruit, 75 pounds of beef, 75 pounds of pork, 60 pounds of butter, and £6 of cash money for the rest of her life. I hereby direct that my son Georg Phillip will receive £20 cash for himself and his descendants, to be paid immediately by my son Peter. My daughter Maria Elizabeth Jung should be paid £20 cash money for her own use and her descendants. My grandson Georg Casper Zinck will receive my 30-acre lot #5 including the buildings on it for himself and his descendants. Futhermore I hereby direct that my dear wife Maria Barbara receive all my money for her own use. But after her decease the remaining money should go to my son Peter Zinck alone. I also appoint my son Peter Zinck as the only executor of this my Last Will and at the same time revoke all my previous last wills and testaments or voluntarily given written bequests and declare this document my only valid last will. Therefore I hereby sign it in my own hand on the above given date. Caspar Zinck Signed, sealed, declared and published in the presence of us witnesses Philip Rotenhauser, John George B"ohner, John (his mark) Selig (Note: Casper Zinck died 25 April 1798 at Rosebay, wife Maria Barbara died 28 Jan 1799 at Rosebay aged 88 years.)Top of Page
